Jim's (Samplemaven) 1972 Inka Tii restoration

I picked up the rear subframe today and I thought it looked very good. I've attached a before and after picture...and although the part was in pretty good shape when I started, the difference now is huge.

Today I took the front driver axles to the shop for refurbishing. I look forward to seeing them in a couple of weeks.

The engine progress continues. The block is painted, but looks like a little oversplash on the aluminum parts that will have to be dealt with.

Esty has the carpet for my project and has begun cutting and binding the carpet set over the week before Christmas.

I've attached a couple of photos of the carpet sets after having been produced and a photo of the back of the carpet showing the cut lines. A fourth photo is attached showing the carpet sample we are using in the early stages for planning.

Jim-

Progress is looking great! I still need to come up to see you soon. Hopefully soon after the holidays.

Keep up with the good work!

BTW: what did you do with the original project car again?

-Zac

Good to hear from you Zac...just shoot me an email whenever you have the time to head this way...I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Regarding the parts car...once we pull off all the new suspension parts that I bought this year, the hulk will not be able to roll. After completion of the Pumpkin...I'll be wanting to get rid of two trannies, an engine, some good suspension parts, three sets of wheels, one excellent set of tires, and some decent interior stuff...not to mention the body and all its parts.

Today, I found a Petri 350 millimeter sport steering wheel in FAQ parts for sale. I understand this is a BMW factory accessory sport steering wheel that was made in Germany for 02s and CSs that were not sold in the USA. I'm looking forward to getting it, it looks as if it's in good shape.

I think it will add a nice, vintatge touch to my car.

I thought I was going with a Nardi wheel and wooden gear shift selector, but once I saw this, I knew it was what I wanted.

Note to Julio...I've tried to return your email a few times and it won't go through.

The 14" Momo steering wheel from the Polaris parts car will be sold along with an original wheel that came with the Inka. All parts left over will be liquidated starting on or around March 1, 2010. That is the date I expect all the work on my project car will be complete and I will be selling an engine, a couple of trannies, two or three sets of wheels, left over trim and so forth.

If you'll email me again, and give me a different email address, I'll contact you when I start moving the parts. I already have one guy who is wanting the left over trim.

Thanks,

Sampleman,

My old tii is looking great, keep up the good work.

I have that Petri wheel in my Malaga ti and with a close ratio steering box it is very nice.Skinny rim takes some getting used to.

If you can buy the wheel for a good price, jump on it.They are going for over 1K no sheeeeet.

Good to hear from you Jonathan.

I'll be getting the new wheel in the next week or two, and the PO told me that the rim is thicker than the normal Petri wheels, so maybe it won't take too much to get accustomed to.

Getting psyched about completing the car. Will you be at V at the V this year? The car ought to be ready to take to that show...and then Rolling the Twisties driving event the week afterward.

We had a good week this week.

All body repair and prep for painting is complete, and the car has been moved to the paint shop for Inka paint and clear coat. They start spraying on Saturday.

Yesterday, I received my set of carpet from Esty and it's looking very good. We went with a wool carpet and I'm very happy the way it worked out. I also have a set of kick panels from Euro Trash for speaker installation in case I decide to put a stereo in the car after all.

Next week I'll have some pics of the body being painted...and hopefully my vintage Petri steering wheel will arrive from Pennsylvania.

it looks like youve raised the bar again jim. beautiful work. im very excited to see this car at V@V

Thanks, Steve...I've appreciated your advice and help along the way.

On Friday, I got my first glimpse of Inka applied on the insides of the trunk and hood. Saturday, the engine bay and the trunk interior was painted.

Monday, the hood and trunk lid along with the door interiors were painted. The car body has been moved back to the shop to have the fenders and doors attached and the bottom finished with Gator Guard. Then the car returns to the paint booth and the complete exterior will be painted soon.

Everything will have three coats of color...and three clear coats. We're discussing a sealer coat on the exterior before we get started.

Awesome build. Look forward to seeing the results at the Vintage. I too have the Petri wheel and wool square weave carpet in my Tii and it just looks "right"

Thanks...I really love the look of the Petri wheel and am glad I found it. I think it has a nice, vintage feel to it.

I think she'll be ready to drive to V at the V and look forward to putting some faces with the names I've been seeing for the past 6 months.

I have cars that I've said goodbye to that are hard to forget...so I know exactly what you mean. We're trying to do a good job with Patina...and I believe you're going to like the results.

We didn't negotiate any visiting rights when you sold me the car...but she misses you and longs to see you at V at the V!

Thanks,
