Looking for a price-point for an LSD

My brother recently bought a 78 320i. It has a 3.64 LSD in it, but he's swapping it for a 3.91. I know the 3.64's are a lot more rare than the 3.91s, but is there a demand for this thing? I would think high HP '02 guys would be all over it. What should he sell this thing for?

If you don't already have a 3.91 LSD, I'll trade you for the 3.64. Right now I'm debating if I should keep the 3.45 (works with the current 4 speed) or go to a 3.64 with a 5 speed. In any case, I have a 3.91 LSD if you're up to trade. Email using the FAQ button in my profile..

jprocket, i'd be interested in your 3.45 if it's a LSD. i have a 3.64LSD from a 320i. may also be interested in the 3.45 gearset if it's from an open diff. i have a C/R 5 spd that may be a good match for 3.45. i'm in marin.

Assuming similar conditions...

1 3.91 LSD sells for $200-$300

A 3.64 LSD sells for $250-$350.

A 3.45 LSD is worth even more. It's all matter of supply and demand.

Of course, we have all seen 3.91 LSDs sell for $50 and 3.64 LSD sell for $500 but that is not the norm.

and keep in mind that even though it may have started life as an LSD, after 30 years of use there is not much "limited" left and a lot of "slip". these are a wear item. the clutch packs inside them loose effectiveness pretty quickly.

a 30 year old lsd is valuable as a core to be rebuilt, not as a funtioning lsd....

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
