good until sometime in Dec before the snow flies enough to break out the salt trucks...sometimes even into January...

The new thing around here is pre-emptive salting--when snow is predicted, they spray the roads with a brine mixture that dries on the road and then is activated when the snow begins. That way they can make cars rust even without snow!

Wolfgang and Ludwig are not looking forward to hibernation, but won't miss the salt!

Thanks Mike. You just reminded me why I moved from there 11 years ago. I'll be getting a severance sometime after the Verizon - Alltel acquisition and I've been putting feelers out. I got a full body shiver reading these threads and decided to limit my job search to the warmer climates for now. : )
