No, you don't. The mirrors don't require any access from the back of the door to install. There's a nut with ears on it that grab the back of the door which the mounting bracket bolts to.

You should be able to install your mirrors from the outside.

If none of the other offers pan out I may have a spare set.

Yeah, they 'just' install from the outside - if your doors had mirrors already on the right and left, and your existing 'door inside' hardware is good. Since most 02s don't have a right door mirror, that install typically does require inside the door access and drilling...

Or you can use a rivet nut aka riv-nut aka nutsert aka pop-nut like this:

Should be as strong or better than the factory blind nut jobbies and no need for fancy fine filing to make the slots. Once you own a setting tool (cheap these days at Harbor Freight and the like), you will find many more uses for riv-nuts, I guarantee it.

res my right door (pass.) does not have any holes... so I will have to drill etc...

My buddies '73 didn't have any holes but when he drilled into the door he found the factory holes already there with threaded nuts.

Is this not common?
