No, you don't. The mirrors don't require any access from the back of the door to install. There's a nut with ears on it that grab the back of the door which the mounting bracket bolts to.

Yeah, they 'just' install from the outside - if your doors had mirrors already on the right and left, and your existing 'door inside' hardware is good. Since most 02s don't have a right door mirror, that install typically does require inside the door access and drilling...

Or you can use a rivet nut aka riv-nut aka nutsert aka pop-nut like this:

Should be as strong or better than the factory blind nut jobbies and no need for fancy fine filing to make the slots. Once you own a setting tool (cheap these days at Harbor Freight and the like), you will find many more uses for riv-nuts, I guarantee it.

res my right door (pass.) does not have any holes... so I will have to drill etc...
