3 questions re:gauges, button, decals

Hi everyone;

Just wanted to see if this gauge holder looks familiar to anyone. Did VDO make it? It is definitely for an 02 because it has the groove to fit on the dash.

What is the green dummy button in console for?

Anyone have any links to any cool 2002 event decals pictures here or in Germany?

Thanks,

ALan S

I have not looked into it. But could you not just use an old emergency light flasher switch and place the spare green knob on it?

ie.

take a flasher switch from a wrecked center console. pop the green button out from you existing console. mate two together. working switch!

Thanks

You know, way back in 1982 right around when I got my first 02, I used to "borrow" my co-worker's car, a 1972 Inka orange that was registered in Nova Scotia (he was in Newport finishing college), anyway his 02, had,if my memory serves me, that button and I think it said FOG on it, ..can't be 100% certain. But funny, why does my 74 have the pull out "front Fog lamp" switch? I assume the rare switch you speak of is for the rear fog light but it seems of poor design to have 2 switches. One should activate both.

I have never seen an 02 w/headlamp washers....hmmm, now you have me thinking of a junkyard trip to make a set.

Again thanks.

There was a thread a while ago on here about Maxamilian (sp?) selling retrofitted headlight washers when the cars were new... apparantly there is a big space or hole for them in the grille from factory... I have never noticed it.

Green is usually front fog lamps, not used in cars with pull out dash switch, amber for rear glass defog. I'm not familiar with head light washers or rear fog lamps. Don't have any green, but do have red and amber and can post pics of wire connectors if needed. Also have e21 which looks similar but mounts differently. The screw in buttons should be interchangable. Who has green?

Anyone know that gauge cluster? Looks great!

I have a green pushbutton on my '73tii.

I also have a 320i button, but it's larger than the hole in the 2002 panel.

The green dummy is the cover for the hole for the real fog lamp switch.

As has been said, green for front fogs. The rear fog lights were required on Belgian and maybe French cars. The ETK shows a wiring harness and the rear light. There are other color switches out there. I have seen purple(not washed out red) and have heard of orange, but that may have been amber. The front fogs, and maybe even a few rear fog lamps, were added by the dealers in the US. They had recomendations on how to install things, but there is not the control you have in a factory, so some of dealers used "artistic license".

As Delia said, the 320i switch is slichtly larger in diameter. Most people that changed over to the newer switch just filed out the console hole to fit. If you go back to the original switch, you will have to fiddle around and make sure the old style(smaller body) switch is perfectly centered as you tighten things down.
