  1. Great, thanks for the information. I will familiarize myself with that information. Yes that is my as-of-now goal (if I get a good diagnosis from the body shop regarding my front end of my 72 colorado orange) is to make that pig cheek ( The fenders with the cut-out for the bumpers which is called the early style/bubble/version 1 according to Ireland engineering), Black/Colorado orange Gruppe racer which is shown in my first post.
  2. Hello Ed, I will do a search but where can I find more about that Koupe's car you mentioned, I'd like to see what he did.
  3. Yes you are totally correct I was kind of confusing the Alpina race cars with an Alpina car. After reading more on the subject and various posts that is what I would love to have a copy of that Alpina race car for street use.
  4. Oh yes definitely a Kamei, that was always one of the first things I would put on any car I bought, even if the car was a total wreck otherwise
  5. I am just amazed at this guys car. I have been just staring at his pictures during the past week, then I go check my bank account balance, then go back to the pictures, and repeat
  6. Well, I am one hypocritical jackass! I just dug up this photo of my first 2002, a 1971 back in 1982....I HAD AN ALPINA DECAL ON THE AIRDAM! I guess I can just blame it on being a hot-shot wanna-be 17 year old
  7. Thanks, so if I want to copy that car that is pictured I would be able to put the Alpina graphics on it but if someone asked me if it was a real Alpina I would say of course not it's just a copy/clone. thanks everyone i'm off to go find an Alpina dashboard plaque so I can install it in my garaged car today and make pretend. ??
  8. I am not one just a slap a badge on the car just because of a paint job. If I went through all the work of making it a respectable nice car that maybe resembled a real Alpina I still wouldn't put the name on the back because it was not earned if I didn't put enough Alpina parts on it. Thanks for the quick responses I'll continue to look into that.
  9. I did a search but could not find a definitive answer, so I apologize if this is adressed somewhere else plus I'm a little rusty on 2002 things and I'm just bringing myself back up to speed. So I ask this: What makes a 2002 an Alpina? What I mean is what qualifies the car to wear the Alpina badge on the back? Is it having all Alpina parts installed or 20% Alpina parts etc? Or is there are no recognized criteria and is it just mainly someone slapping an Alpina tag on the back of the car and having a steering wheel hub and gearshift knob with an Alpina decal on it. I ask this because I bounce back-and-forth in my mind someday I would like to make in Alpina clone car, you know with the Colorado orange and black hood/trunk and I'm wondering what I need to look at to be able to put "Alpina"on the back without getting beat up by fellow 2002ers at an event or getting flipped the bird if a 2002 drives by me or worse yet actually getting kidnapped and erased from the face of the earth by a real Alpina club/group/association. Thanks y'all
  10. I did a lot of plastic repairs last summer on various things and learned that glues, epoxies etc usually are not easily attached to plastic for repairs. I did have great success in welding plastic by using a plastic welder bought at Harbor Freight, basically a soldering iron with a flat tip. You would need similar plastic to use as a filler -they sell rods made of ABS, and few others (maybe spare washer caps around) or just determine what kind of plastic it is, I think its probably some type of polyethelyne -if it floats most likely it is. (nowadays plastics are marked -there are guys on here that can probably tell you what kind of plastic it is). Ive used things such as milk containers, totes etc and even just shaved excess material from the item to use as filler. a few sources: http://www.urethanesupply.com/identify.php http://nerfhaven.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18527 http://grumpiornot.hubpages.com/hub/How-plastic-is-really-recycled Again I humble myself to the more knowledgeable folks here.

  15. I just started watching a movie on Netflix called "Chef" which is supposed to be really good. The first five minutes of showed one of the workers sleeping in his 74 to 76 2002 the dark blue color I can't remember the pin code name.
  16. I'm a Amazon-aholic and bought these last month, similar price $37 each, but with the free shipping. hella.tiff
  17. Thanks for all the help, I actually find a guy Half mile away who has a frame machine and ironically he's worked on several hundred 2002s because he used to work for the local BMW dealership back in the late 70s early 80s for several years. He actually had a '75 out that was getting repaired so he said he knows the cars. He's going to look at it for 25 bucks, assess it (I showed him pictures) and he said that I would need Hood, nose panel and the two fenders once he gets on the machine if he deems it repairable so he could match everything up. His labor is 50 bucks an hour and the time for the machine is $65 dollars an hour so $115 an hour total with him doing the work on machine, and then then when he temp. tacks tacks on the panels or does work off of the machine that's when $50 dollars an hour. He said it could take four hours it could take 10 hours. That's if he deems it repairable, and he did mention the rest would be a factor if it is bad. But he was explaining what happened in the accident why this crushed and that bent etc. because the way it was designed so he was pretty smart about it so I guess I lucked out. But I have a $ limit I only want him straightening out the car and I can install the body panels at my own leisure. We'll see what happens I'll keep my fingers crossed and do some more research my own as far as the measurements etc. It never hurts to learn new things. Thanks again guys.
  18. Front end smashed can Pinkey be saved? I was just reading this topic and the person named Mike replied that a good way to tell if the frame is severely damage is to measure from center of wheels on both sides of the car. I just went outside and did this with a tape measure and measured from center of hub to center of hub on each side. Mind you I was eyeballing this as I didn't have a level to be exactly precise and plumb but it seems the damaged side is 2 inches shorter than the none damaged side... so I assume there's 2" of damage in the frame ? if I am interpreting that correctly. So is that really bad or not so bad? I will attempt to take more precise measurements tomorrow. thank you mike and everyone
  19. I really want to save this car because it only has 70,000 original miles and I just love everything about it minus this front end. Ive had it for several years sitting and done nothing to it. I was looking at it tonight and to get a closer look at the damage I cut part of the nose off (I had ordered a new nose panel maybe preemptively last week) I noticed that the right frame rail is bent which I knew that several years ago but I think that repair might be above my pay grade. The doors close fine, This seems to be adequate distance between fenders or where the fenders were and the doors. the firewall on the right side is bent and it looks like it buckled a tiny bit near the fuse box. So is this a candidate for a rack any body shop? I'm going to have to look for something here in Rhode Island unless somebody knows of something nearby. I was going to wait to get the nose piece to see if I can line up everything that way but I don't know if I'll be able to do that. Also do I have to remove the engine and transmission to have a frame or the frame rail straightened? I took off those pieces tonight because they were very much in the way and I've had differing opinions whether or not to take anything off because some people say that the more you leave on the better it is for the frame straightening rack but it's too late now, I did it. maybe was mistake I hope it wasn't. Thank you for your you're help I hate to think that this car is a lost cause and I know anything can be fixed if you want to spend the money but I'm hoping people have had worse than this or just as bad as this and everything came out alright. Theres not a heck of a lot of (structural) rust (I think) on the car ...everything else I can manage during the next several months but this is my biggest stumbling block. Thank you very much for any help or assistance or guidance. alan s
  20. I'm kind of new getting back to this forum and back to 2002's in general but the website mentioned http://wallothnesch.com/ I tried to go on the other day to maybe order a part but I could not navigate it at all because it was all in German, and I speak a little German (very little). However I did end up finding an OEM whole front nose panel from BMW of Bridgewater New Jersey for what I thought was incredible price of 800 bucks delivered I can't wait to get itI just hope I'll be able to install it.
  21. Wow, thats just uncool if he is a scammer.....KARMA!
