those e28 starters are little beasts but how long do the m3 starters last?

I had an M30 starter in my car. The size is hardly larger than the S14 starter, as well as the weight just being a smidgen more... But the kicker is that i found mine at a junk yard for like 10 bucks. Way more bang for the buck than the S14 unit.

Cheers,

Jonas

I tried the E30 M3 starter on my 02 and it grinded the flywheel teeth everytime I tried to start it... after the 2nd try it worked... I eventually removed it and put the old starter back on...

The S14 was much smaller and lighter though.

My stock '76 starter was ailing, and can probably be rebuilt easy enough, but I found a rebuilt M3 starter on ebay for ridiculously cheap (I guess nobody was watching!). So, I installed it and have had no issues whatsoever, except for the install mod. The M3 starter would not attach to the support brace like the old starter, so I drilled another hole and sized a bolt w/nut to give support in the rear (I see where cd gave a p/n for the bracket...I wonder if that will fit better?). The starter bolts on the block & housing line up perfectly.

The M3 starter is much smaller, lighter, and more powerful. "Malaga" starts like nothing else...and he has points too! Sweet mod..highly recommended!
