Small Coolant Leak

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have developed a small coolant leak in the backside of the front timing cover bolt hole. It's not a lot, but in the morning i'll notice small drips on the floor. It also pools on that upper ridge.

The problem just developed in the past month or so. This is an issue with the front cover gasket, correct? I'm familiar with the weep hole leak, but I havent experienced this.

I don't see a coolant trail coming from above but it might be forward of the picture, if it is leaking where you think then, unless it's something real weird, it's most likely the gasket I can't think of any other way for water to get to that bolt. Silly question but is the bolt tight.

If everybody in the room is thinking the same thing, then someone is not thinking.

@Son of Marty No question is silly with these cars, I need to check today 😃

So weird because that timing cover boilt is still separate from the water pump bolt, I can't think of another way fluid would get in there unless I missed a leak from the water divider or something is cracked internally? I'll report back.

Water inlet housing that bolts to the head, yeah...

that's my guess.

20 minutes, depending on how bad the corrosion is.

leaky hose clamps?

It was loose coolant hose clamps on the divider. Tightened them up and so far so good; probably due for a refresh soon though.

Kinda embarrassed I missed it, thanks for the help everyone 🤦🏻

All good. The front cover gasket only holds oil, not coolant, so no way it came from front cover gasket. Glad it is sorted!
