OEM accessory Talbot mirror info

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

Just to share some info that took a little work to track down - nothing horrible, but I figured that I'd share it here so that it's easy to find for anyone else. So, the Talbot mirror that was offered as an OEM accessory for our cars is a model Berlin 333. I was able to track down a NOS one for a spare. 😊 For parts contact Günther Hansele at Aardvark International in Whittier California. He has had molds made for all the plastic parts and can make as many as anyone needs and has mirrors and mounting hardware as well (the spare unit I picked up has different mounting hardware compared to my old ones)  - parts are not inexpensive, but at least they are available. Attached is a pdf with a diagram of the parts. Hope this helps someone, and that we can help keep Günther in business so these parts are available for the future.

I thought they were only an OEM option for the 2000 coupe?

The mirrors did appear in the accessory list in 1967 for the 2000 base model cars. At one time I fantasized about getting them but the examples I found were always breathtakingly pricey...

The Sonderzubehör Special Equipment Catalog lists 1600-2 and 2002 as applications - but that's not a Berlin 333. Hopefully I'm not putting out bogus information and the model info I have is not wrong. It doesn't matter much to me in particular because I know the mirrors for my car are original to it, but given my spare with it's OEM box and the correct part number on it, I'm guessing that maybe BMW changed the model they used somewhere along the line?

In looking around I came across this eBay listing for a NOS set of Talbot mirrors with the original BMW boxes - and they're also Berlin 333s, so it looks pretty clear that at least for some time while they were offered that is the model BMW supplied. $1950 for the pair!! 😲

Got a NOS one for the 2000CS off Kleinanziegan years ago. They are becoming more pricey, that’s for sure.

The black gasket for the base of the mirror is available from Günther Hansele for $35 - as I mentioned, not inexpensive but he does have them.

  • 4 weeks later...

So the parts I bought for my mirrors arrived today. Everything looks really good, but the black gasket that goes between the mirror base and the car body is very different from what I have from my NOS mirror. These are very very soft and rubbery, and seem a bit fragile. I may see if I can use my NOS one and 3D print some spares.

With this I have what I need to rebuild the originals and have the correct mounting hardware for my spare to match the originals.
