Sprucing up the engine.

Almost too pretty to install and run......

Almost...

Loose: Not tightly bound. Subject to motion.
Lose: What happens when you are spell check dependent.

1975 Malaga. It is rusty and  springs an occasional leak.  Just like me.

Very pretty.

around here, the hemlock gets into the engine, the trunk seals, heater box, everything.

The spruce, not so much of a problem.

Funny you bring that up. Here its the Southern Yellow Pines. Yellow tree sperm hangs in the air around here for a month or so. It gets everywhere, including in your open engine if you leave the doors open to your shop.

Willing to share any details about the engine with us...?

Thanks man. It's the mildly rebuilt engine out of my '71. The previous owner did a mostly stock rebuild on it before the car came to me. Going through his old receipts, it looks like there was some boring/bigger pistons action goin on but no specifics were listed. He passed away, and his kids (not car people) found what they could in terms of records for me, but there wasn't much there. Since its the original motor, I don't plan to hot rod it so pulling the head just wasn't in the plans for this project. This whole thing started with some lower nose rust repair, and suspension rehab. Cleaning up the motor was a weekend side project.

What I'll end up doing is going EFI. I have everything to do it sitting in a box on a shelf. You may have noticed the trigger wheel. Since its a PITA to swap that thing in when the car is put together, I decided to go ahead and mount the trigger wheel. My plan is to get the car running/driving again with the carb, and then convert EFI when I have the time. I'm also in the middle of getting my 17 year old's 944 project on the road. The 944 it getting priority over the 2002, so I'm fitting in the '02 work where I can.

Everyone loves good wood....😉

Except....

Pine needles bro. I have a row of 50 foot Cedars in my back yard. Beautiful and tall and just about nothing grows beneath them. The needles and cones drop 24/7. The needles find their way into every nook and cranny....(mostly of the house and cars that is..)

One detailer fired me. It took his team too long to get all the little suckers out.

Back on topic.

That engine pretty......

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
