Momo Cloverleaf - Tire size

Hello!

 

I recently upgraded from 14" Bottlecaps to 13" Momo Cloverleaf wheels. The car is equipped with Bilstein shocks in the rear and what seems to be the original shocks in the front. Personally, I like how the car currently sits on my 185/65R14 tires.

 

The previous owner had 175/70R13 tires on the Momo wheels, but I'm concerned this might create too large of a gap to the bodyline. I'm considering running Vredestein Sprint Classics in 185/70R13 to maintain a similar overall size, but I'm unsure if having that much sidewall will have any negative impacts. I'm seeking both advice and a general consensus on what would look best. Any thoughts?"

185/70 x 13 is the rolling diameter equivalent of the OEM 165/80 x 13 tires, and are the proper size for those wheels.  You could go to a 205/60 x 13 (very popular back in the day for 5.5" or wider wheels) but they're even harder to find than 185/70s.  

 

A 175/70 tire is smaller in diameter and will mess up your speedometer/odometer readings, besides providing less rubber on the road and a little skinny for a 5.5" or wider rim.

These are 185/70's on 13x6.  Wish they were Pirelli's, but at the time the Pirelli's weren't available.

God I absolutely love that setup, from the color to the wheels its just about what I want for my 02!

 

They are actually 5"wide which I know is unusual! Would 185/70R13's still work?

I've been running 185/70s on 5 x 13 wheels (factory steel and alloy) since the early 1980s with no problems, and back in the day, folks ran 205/60s on 5 inch rims--main problem there was that the tread didn't sit absolutely flat on the ground due to tire width vs rim width.  But folks did it anyway...

Sticking with 185/70R13 Vredestein Sprint Classics as you mentioned is a wise choice to maintain a similar overall diameter to your current 185/65R14 setup. This ensures minimal change in ride height, speedometer accuracy, and suspension geometry.
