5 speed swap help

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

A few updates from my swap. Slave cylinder fitted with a little tunnel manipulation. Original line seems to fit so will use it at least for initial test then probably replace with a new one.

Going with the e21 fitting method, current bracket is about 40mm long. I have ordered another to cut short (I want to keep my original parts).

A mate of mine made this bracket up for mounting the box.

It's upside down.  Hose on the top, bleed nipple on the bottom.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

Hmm... True... does it matter? Its still lowest point should bleed ok right? If a little difficult to access.

The bleed drilling internal goes to the opposite side of the cylinder opposite the nipple.   Designed to vent the high point where the air bubble would be.  Nipple on the bottom for service convenience.  I updated to a post with a picture from the E21 Haynes manual that shows it.

You mean this one?

I'm pretty sure you'll want to remove the stock transmission mounts or thru will touch the sides of the 240.

That was my experience with the30 variant, especially on the R/h side

I will aim for getting it ready to test first and make sure there are actually 5 gears in this mystery box I've bought, then I can refine it with more confidence that I don't need to put it all back and the 4 speed back in again 🙏
