What’s the base circle diameter on these regrinds?

Ken, the base circle is about 24.4mm.

@roadhog0 Your mailbox is full. Edited message via post below:

Q: Are these copies of the factory 300, or approximations? For example, did the grinder match the lobe spread of the original 300? (I think somewhere I have that number.) Are these Delta Cam regrinds, or someone else? -KB

It is an unknown who ground the cams. I got these with a batch of other parts and they did not have a cam card. I had one dialed out by Delta and after some research the numbers mimic that of a BMW 300 (238 degrees at 0.050 and 0.315"(8mm) lift).

As for LSA, they made a mistake on one of the centerline measurements so I do not have that answer. I'm planning to get back down there and have them fix that mistake so I can answer that.

For those following along at, home here is the morning update after coming back from Delta. They do not have the ability to get the LSA right now because the only guy there who knows how to run the cam doctor does not know how to do the bank shift required to get the LSA (m10 intake/exhaust are not in a line like a small block chevy). They also did not have cam cards for anything but a 292, so I can't compare to their 300 profile. This cam is similar, but not a 292 (less lift on 292).

That being said, with all the information I have I am still confident in calling these a BMW 300 clone.

You mention that the cam runs well with a 38/38.... Does that mean you are running this cam in your car? If so, how does the cam perform for a street car? Do you have any driveability issues?

Thanks

I am not running one from this batch, but I am running a BMW 300 regrind from Delta which for comparisons purposes should be very very close. For reference, the engine is 9.5:1 compression, E21 head, stock valves, dual valve spring, long tube header, mechanical advance distributor. I ran the 300 with the 38 for a number of year and 45 DCOE's for the last few. With the 38 it had a very lumpy idle, but otherwise ran really nice across the rev range. It did have the normal 38 lean spot at cruise that many of us have tried to address but never fully fixed, I wouldnt call this the cams fault. I did not experience much of a loss of low end torque and it pulls pretty good below 3000 for city driving, but it did feel to pull harder past 3-3500RPM. I cruised this with both a 4 and 5 speed trans, it ran fine with both. When switching to the DCOE's it smoothed out the idle a bunch and picked up what felt like more pep, but the butt dyno is only so accurate.

So to sum it up, if you're ok with a lumpy idle with a 38 the rest is just positives in my opinion.
