Looking for talented seat upholsterer in Greater SF Bay Area

I am looking to go through the interior of my 1976 '02 with new carpets, upholstery, etc. While I'm at it I am interested in rebuilding my front seats for greater comfort and lateral support as I am a bigger guy at 6'3" 240 lbs. Has anyone had success with, or is aware of, a person or shop that has experience customizing BMW 2002 seats? I tried mounting Recaro's from an E21 a couple years ago but the side bolsters were too close together to afford me sufficient comfort on longer trips. I feel that modifying my factory seats is probably my best option if I can find someone that knows what he or she is doing. Any suggestions or thoughts on the subject are appreciated.

Mark,

Try contacting Len Vincent at Mr. Stitch Auto & Boat Upholstery Service in San Mateo.

www.mrstitch.com.  (650) 572-8818.

Len repaired my driver's seat after another un-named local upholstery guy replaced the horsehair with foam. My seat looked like a giant   mushroom! Len does top-quality work!

Are you interested in the East Bay?

I had good luck with Superior Auto Upholstery,  1128 Erickson Rd, Concord, CA 94520 , (925) 689-9440.  Jose completely reupholstered the seats in my wife's previous black 1984 528e and the results were wonderful-- looked good and were very comfortable; the seats were also mechanically repaired (used BMW cloth).  Another well-regarded upholstery shop would not cut foam to fit (he wanted to rebuild the horsehair cushions that were just NLA) at a higher fee.

Jose also rebuilt the Konig seat from my late 2002 and sewed nice gray seatcovers to compliment the black interior in my tii.

Although I have not needed upholstery services in a decade or so, this the first place I would stop, parking perhaps among the Alfas and Porsches that also constitute Jose's clientele.

In the FWIW department I share similar dimensions.    I am embarking on rebuilding a set of E21 sport seats which feel good, and much better than the Recarros.  I found that the bolsters were too close for long trips as well.

Everything is astronomically expensive.  With what I paid in parts this week, I could have gotten a finished set only four years ago.

Lseat is a good supplier as long as you get them shipped to US.  Canada is a nightmare.
