  2. I really appreciate your responses. Some answers confirmed things I suspected and some gave me new things to consider. Thank you all for taking the time to respond 👍🏻
  3. I have a 1976 2002, on which I am interested in installing a smaller European-style bumper (long) at the rear. I have admired such bumpers on many cars in several photos. My only concern is that when I look at many of the pictures online with the euro bumper installed, the ends that wrap around the quarter panels on each side appear to be angled slightly upward to meet the height of the knee trim that runs down each side of the car. I am unsure if this is because the knee trim is slightly higher on big bumper cars than on the 72/73 models where the knee trim was introduced or because the indent in which the bumper rests below the license is at a slightly different height than on Roundtail cars. Of course, the third possibility is that people are not as careful when they are lining everything up before they tighten the nuts. Can you confirm if I am right or wrong, or if the pictures are merely showing inconsistent installations? I want to make sure what is needed to make things line up and I would appreciate it if I could figure it out before purchasing the bumper and possibly drilling new holes after my paint job to ensure everything lines up correctly.

  6. I am looking to go through the interior of my 1976 '02 with new carpets, upholstery, etc. While I'm at it I am interested in rebuilding my front seats for greater comfort and lateral support as I am a bigger guy at 6'3" 240 lbs. Has anyone had success with, or is aware of, a person or shop that has experience customizing BMW 2002 seats? I tried mounting Recaro's from an E21 a couple years ago but the side bolsters were too close together to afford me sufficient comfort on longer trips. I feel that modifying my factory seats is probably my best option if I can find someone that knows what he or she is doing. Any suggestions or thoughts on the subject are appreciated.
  7. I saw one of your posts where you had green instrument bulbs. How was this done, green bulbs or colored some white ones? Thanks for any help.

I bought these from Japan long time ago. They’re made specifically for instrument clusters and light distribution is fantastic. They’re wedges type but I converted them to 02 pin compatible. Not sure if they’re available online but Search yahoo Japan for instrument globes and make sure they’re made in Japan because there’re too many fakes or chines made.

  8. Thank you all. I guess I have some sluething to do. In the interest of full disclosure it was actually my son-in-law that was responsible and he's blaming it on the friend that was helping him? P.S. Yes John, you have the right guy. I promptly lost your number the other day (I'm blaming my phone) but I will get ahold of you using alternate means.
  9. So my son went to borrow my ‘76 2002 that turned out to need a jumpstart. He manage to hook up the jumper cables incorrectly in the dark by having the positive and negative switched on one of the cars. He said there was a big spark but he thought that was normal. The end result was the car did not start and when I jumped it correctly the next day it ran poorly and there was no electricity getting to the gauges, turn signal, radio etc. I checked the fuses which all looked intact. I have put a new battery in the car and now I believe I need to systematically go through electrical components to figure out what is been damaged. Are there any suggestions as to the proper sequence in checking out the electrical system in my car and what in particular I should check? Of course I’m gonna make my son help ? Thank you for any guidance/suggestions

  11. For some reason it. is really hard for me to get the search function to work on this site. I don't know what changed. Anyway I saw a pretty cool, and expensive, story on converting the seat belt warning light on top of my dash onto an oil temp\pressure set up. Now I can't seem to find it again. Any help finding it again would be appreciated. Thanks
  12. Hi, I am looking for a complete black interior for a 1976 2002. I have been collecting what I can, some tan and some black, but I would prefer not to dye or paint tan pieces black. I need all side panels, arm rests/door handles, front seats, rear seat, etc. I'm looking for a complete set of pieces but I will take what I can get. You can email me at mhoffmann@oaklandnet.com or text me at 510-755-5842. Any leads or thoughts appreciated!
  13. I am hoping to find interior pieces in black; door panels, rear side panels, handles/arm rests, rear seat, etc. I am hoping to find in decent/good condition. This will go in a 1976. I am located in Oakland. Thanks for looking Mark @ 510-755-5842

  17. My seats were re-done by the P.O. at some point and as you point out the seats are no longer new. I have not torn them down yet but part of my problem is probably the fact that I'm 6'3" and 255 Lbs. I'm exploring all options and if anyone has had success restructuring stock seats, maybe with a whole new shape, I would love to know about it. Conversly, if anyone in the bay area has had there seats returned to as delivered condition, and they would allow me, I would love to sit in them. Thanks again for all the responses!
  18. Okay, thanks all for the good feedback so far. My other option is to rebuild the original seats. I have never liked their level of comfort particularly on a long drive.Has anyone had success having someone reshape the seats while reupholstering them? The frames are strong, original '76 seats.
  19. I know I'm killing kittens here but the best post on seats has no accompaning pictures. I've attached a picture of exactly the type of seat I'm looking for. I believe it's a Recaro but the bolsters arent as built up. My old fat body cant slide its butt over the big bolsters on many nof the recaros I've sat in and I feel like I'm wearing a girdle once I'm in the seat. Any I deas on where I can find a sports style seat (like pictued) that is not as radically contoured? Thanks
  20. Hi, I am located in the SF Bay area and I'm looking for a complete black interior in good shape (door and rear seat side panels, arm rests/door handles, rear seat. Front seats are not necessarily needed). I had my original stuff in a couple boxes that were stored while I restored the car. The garage I was renting was broken into and the boxes were stolen. Any leads greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark mhoffmann@oaklandnet.com Whoops, the car was a '76
  21. So I live in the SF Bay Area (Oakland) and it's time to do the upholstery on my 1976 2002. The seats are stock and are very uncomfortabe. Does anyone have a lead on a shop that is experienced in making mods on the seats as well as doing 2002 re-upholstery? I will probably go with a kit from World Upholstery but I really want to have a more comfortable seat. I'm a big guy so Recaros are not an option as they don't fit me well, or vs versa. Thanks for any help
  22. Does anyone have a carfax acct that I can run a vin # through? Thanks
  23. I'll take the set up. E-mail me at mhoffmann@oaklandnet.com if it's still for sale.
  24. If he doesn't take 'em I will. Mark @ 510 755 5842
  25. Unfortunately I had my head done only a few thousand miles ago. Now the lower end is making noise. I had a mechanic check it out while I was coming up from Bakersfield and he confirmed it was rod slap and the only fix was a rebuild. Are there any recommendations for the best way to address this? I would like to use the new head and I am located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thanks
