  • joysterm changed the title to German Aftermarket 14" Steelies

Mike,

I would not classify these as “aftermarket” rims. Showing both “BMW” and the BMW part number, (3611)”1125686”, stamped into the face, these are bona fide OEM rims, with manufacturing dates — later 1980’s — within the e30 manufacturing era. Solrad (“SRD”) and Kronprinz were OEM rim suppliers for BMW, although neither delivered the quantities of steel rims produced by Lemmerz.

Of course, I don’t believe U.S.-market e30’s arrived with steel rims. And I don’t know if Canadian-imported e30’s came with the stock steel rims. Given the manufacturing dates, I’m guessing someone bought this set for winter use, and they saw relatively little use. But even if they were purchased over the dealer’s counter, they are OEM steel rims for an e30.

Best regards and GLWS,

Steve

If you look up the part # on real OEM it says e30 1982-1992. Other websites have them listed as early convertible wheels.

I'm pretty sure all US cars came with alloy wheels unless special ordered.

Canada on the other hand got a mix of US and Euro spec cars.

Hi. This combination of this wheel and tire size 185/60/14 clear the body of an uncut 2002 with no issues? Thanks Pat.

Either 185/65-14 or 195/60-14, the 185/60 is too short.

US ‘91 318i 4dr’s came standard with these steel wheels and full hubcaps.

And I'm willing to bet a lot of dealership's put alloy wheels on them and tossed the steel ones in the dumpster.

Actually, they didn’t do that very often in these. Most that I used to see back then were bog standard. I was in high school in the San Francisco Bay Area when they were new.

Both of those are euro cars, because the 324d was never sold by BMW USA and the red one has a euro plate on it.

I already posted a photo of an advertisement of a US E30 with steel wheels, with hubcaps. That you replied to.

With sharing these two earlier Euro market ones with the same steel wheels, I was only pointing out examples that these are standard E30 wheels to the original poster and others here who might not know. It wasn’t about you. ?

My ‘91 318i has the original steel wheels with full hubcaps.  Pretty cool look, actually.  The 318 sedans were very basic cars with minimal options.  I was able to buy a spare wheel from BMW a few months ago, as well.

And, Greg, are your 318i’s rims black or silver? I’m curious because I believe the e30 steelies were available in black and silver. I’m wondering if, for instance, black might have been used with full wheel covers and silver was used with center caps, as in Tom’s 2 Euro examples. Just curious!

Thanks and best regards,

Steve
