Heater box thermostat question

FYI, if the fan availability or price are an issue for you, i found a 5.2" Spal motorcycle fan that works wonderfully as a replacement, and it's replaceable from the engine side with the heater box installed! Maybe not so pertinent to the OP in this case, but wanted to mention it!

Guys ,

I got a valve from another local member .

Not many here in Ireland.

Anyway Im still a bit confused.

My car has two control panels.

One has 2 sliders and the other 1 slider.

All 3 are accounted for in the heater box (3 Bowden cables).

2 pairs of flaps & the single wide flap.

So where is the "switch" for the on/off valve?

Here is my car .

Thanks

The slider to the right of the steering column attaches to the 'valve' to control the valve opening and thus heat or cool air into the cabin when the heater box motor is operated (lower left hand switch on gauge cluster - turn to the right 3 positions/speeds).

OK,

Almost ready for reassembly ,I  need to fab a bracket for my valve .

Here is a photo I took of the box before I stripped it.

As you can see the valve & cable are missing BUT I believe that the circled slider should be the one to operate it.

So that leaves me with a double slider BUT with 3 flaps to control.
Note , not my pictures.

1 & 2 should be controlled by the twin slider (is this right?)

Mike Self said that post "74 cars have 4 cables (mine is a 74) so where should flap 3 be controlled from ?

Thanks again.

  • Solution

The PO had some fun with your heater cables.

The lever to the right of the steering column operates the Heater Valve AND the flap via a double cable. It would seem a prev Owner perhaps cut the 'missing' cable off??

this website shows the cable required and if you look at the pics provided, how the double cable attaches to the lever bracket.

I have no clue if a double cable for a LHD oriented heater box, would be the same as your RHD oriented one. So, I would contact Jaymic or Linwar in the UK to see if they can get you one. You may get a used one from someone on the UK '02 Board.

Pics taken, while I renovated my RHD Heater Box a few years ago, showing the double cable entering the Box. (not the best quality, but you get the idea)

02Les!!

Thank you so much !!

That makes complete sense now.

The previous owner was my dad so I'll have to have a word with him at the weekend ;).

Thanks to everyone who replied & Irish merc for posting me a valve.

I'm guessing that's you !

Dave
