If you eventually score a set, here's a hot tip:

3.0 bavaria / E3 dog bowl hubcaps fit...and look completely awesome on these!

I did a trial run with some a few years ago on my own car. If I can find them, I might have photos of one test-mounted. Stay tuned!

I’d love to see the photos! Now I need the hubcaps too.

Here's the only photo I could find on my own rig... These were the 5" x 14" NK wheels... I'd recommend having them widened to 6" or more, in order to expand your tire options.

They do look great, Paul!  ?

So what are you thinking in terms of tire size, assuming you use the 5 x 14’s as found? 185/65/14? I believe a 195/60/14 is recommended for 5.5” to 7” rims, but I’d bet they’d work on a 5” rim....

Just curious.... ?

Best regards,

Steve

I am thinking to have them widened to about 6" at most. Hard to find performance tires in 14" even harder than 13" BUT i can get 205/55/14. I wouldn't want to roll the fenders so I will have to make sure the offset is right when the wheels are made. I will be using GC coil over and ride lower than stock.

I think I recall finding a 185/60-14 in a decent compound.

Direzza ZIII ? I mean...they LOOK sticky....no idea if they're actually any good.

Compared to a 5 x 13 wheel.... the 5 x 14 looks SUPER scrawny. Just an observation.

I went with 5 x 13 tii steel wheels and early 1600 caps and I love it. Also love the Pirelli CN36 tires! SO much better than the dangerous in wet Khumo stuff I had on it last year. The Pirellis are a great handling tire that also look the part...not just a crappy and expensive retro tire. I actually DRIVE my car, so performance was important. No regrets! (185/70-13 currently)

I thought I had a complete set with a set of hubcaps I was willing to sell. Unfortunately one of the wheels is different and the hubcap is too big. So I am looking for 1 14 x 5 NK wheel.

by the way the Right Honorable Al  I bought the last wheel from, doesn’t have any more.

I was going to ask Andrew if I could enter these rims in our Wheels database. But — I should have known — Daniel (MOJOJOY) has already listed them, three years ago: Kronprinz 5715A (5”) and Kronprinz 5842A (4 1/2”)!

So these three need one more Kronprinz 5715A to complete a matched set of 5” rims. Or, possibly, a Lemmerz 1444 or 1446 (both 5” models). If the two widths of Kronprinz rims, 4 1/2” and 5”, however, do not accept the same hub cap, I’d wonder if a Kronprinz 5” and a Lemmerz 5” accept the same hub cap... ?

Regards,

Steve

And of course there are the 2000CS wheels, which are 14x5.5. I have a set of those on my car, with what I believe to be Bavaria hubcaps and cheap trim rings.

I put black Plastidip on them last year to hide a little rust creeping out from the seams - I'm not convinced powder coating is a good choice on steel wheels. I plan to mount up my 13x5 Opel Kadett early-tii lookalikes for a while and refinish the CS wheels eventually.

I also had a second set of CS/NK wheels that had been widened to 6" and the vent slots hogged out. I traded or sold them 15 or so years ago, however.

Pictures show the 14x5.5 wheels in silver powder coat a few years ago, and with the black dip and the trim rings. 185/65R14 tires.

Yes, Dave, that is a great look with the trim rings, and the black dip gives the appearance of greater “dish”.  Very nice. Any rubbing issues with 185/65’s? Are the fender lips stock?

Does anyone know the offset (ET) on the 4 1/2” through 5 1/2” NK rims?

Best regards,

Steve

Steve,

No rubbing at all, either before or after going from stock to H&R springs (though the stock springs sagged a lot, so the replacements didn't lower it much). My fenders are not rolled.

I don't know the offset; I can check the wheels sometime, but I recall it wasn't stamped into most steel BMW wheels of this era.
