Removing roundels from hub caps??

I'm in the process of restoring a set of dog dish hub caps from a 1600-2.  I've already purchased new roundels to apply, but I'm a bit concerned about getting the old roundels off first.  As of yet, I confess that I haven't tried yet.  Even so, I figured it might be worthwhile to ask here first.  Have any of you managed to remove the old roundels from a set of hub caps?  And if so, how did you manage?

I used a heat gun, applying the heat to the backside of the hubcap.

That was my plan too, but figured it couldn't hurt asking the question first...  ?

With the heat gun, did the roundels come off reasonably easy, or was it a time consuming job?

It was pretty easy to remove the roundel. Removing the residual adhesive was a bit of a pain. 

I also heated the hubcap, slightly, before applying the new roundel, hoping that it would adhere better.

Cut with dry wall razor knife

pried up edges and pulled off with pliers 

soaked old rock hard glue residue with

Goo gone

overnight to soften

After the heat in the back, use paint stripper in the hard glue residue.

Carburetor cleaner works well to remove the glue residue too.

Excellent!  Thx guys - really appreciate the input.
Don't think I've seen Goo Gone here in the UK, but I've got some carburettor cleaner in the garage, so will give that a go instead...

What do they  look like currently  Anders?  I have a pair and have a loose eye out for two more.  I like the style even though I know it’s  not really a 2002 look.  Mine are almost milky.  Are you rechroming them?

Luckily, mine really aren't bad.  It's mostly the old roundels which have gone somewhat yellowish as they always do.  The brightwork is alright, but I'll obviously give them a thorough polish before I apply the new roundels...

 

Pardon the horrible pic, but that's all I have on my laptop right now.  Will obviously need to clean my 5" til steelies a little as well.

I see.  Mine seem a bit different —yours are a bit more concave around the roundel. Maybe someone will chime in as to the difference , but yours look good!
