Set of 4 Cromodora CD 32 wheels 13x5.5 et18

Location: Seattle

Price: $400

Condition: very good, not painted, minor curb rash on one

I found these wheels hiding behind some boxes on the shelf in my garage. I bought them years ago and had the paint blasted off of them, then forgot about them. I took them to a wheel repair shop this morning to have them checked out. Three of them have virtually zero runout and one has .024 inches radial and .010 lateral runout on the inside bead. All the other wheels were under .005 in all directions. The wheel repair tech told me not to worry about it and if there's any tire shake they could straighten it out easily. One wheel has a small amount of curb rash in one spot (not the wheel with runout), the rest look clean to me. The one with scrapes looks to me like it would be easy to fill with some thick primer or a little spot putty. I would prefer not to ship these, but if they're still here next week I'll consider boxing and shipping on your dime. Which will probably be $100-$150 for UPS ground including packing materials. PM if you want them. -Rojo

Wow! I'm really surprised that these aren't getting snapped up. Isn't $400 like a total steal? I'm trying to give these away to clean out my garage. They're neat wheels and someone needs to take them off my hands! They are in great shape, all sand blasted and ready for paint. I thought someone would want to score a deal and paint them themselves. Perhaps if I prime them with some epoxy, sand and put a couple coats of silver and some clear then someone would want to pay me $1000? Could someone give me some feedback here please? I honestly don't understand why these are not selling. Conserv Steve, can you help explain? Thanks. -Rojo

PS They've been sitting in my warm and dry garage since stripping and have not been handled with bare skin, just moved around a little wearing fresh rubber gloves every time.

honestly, these are tempting and the price is definitely more than fair! in fact, if I hadn't just bought a set of wheels that need refinishing, i'd be all over these. in fact, I've been following this ad and am a bit surprised they haven't sold as well!

I'm as surprised as you are, Rick!

Perhaps buyers are not aware that these are 10-pound magnesium alloy rims -- probably the lightest quality 5.5" x 13" rim manufactured (my 5.5" Campagnolo's are more than 10 1/4 lbs.!) -- and were, along with Campagnolo's, the most expensive and desired rims of the period!  The spoked CD32's look especially good with darker colors, like Inka, Sienabraun, Atlantic, Verona, etc...  I see a May 1975 date shown, but they were introduced during the round taillight era, so would be appropriate for round or square taillight cars.

GLWS!

Best regards,

Thanks Steve. I naively thought people would "just know" what a CD 32 was. And they are indeed quite light. Which makes shipping them cheaper too. Since it was mentioned, the casting date I took a picture of was May 75, but it seemed a little odd all the wheels were cast in different months of 1975, one in December I think. Maybe they just randomly sat on a shelf awaiting final machining and selling in 76 or something.

Yes, exactly.  I don't think that sellers or buyers generally cared about the casting dates.  They grabbed 4 rims out of the stock room and were off!

Best regards,

Steve

Rojo - the free delivery is very tempting so let me think about that and I'll let you know! I've never finished magnesium wheels so is there any special prep involved before painting them? Thanks, Mitch

That's a helluva deal, folks...there was another set of these that recently sold here.  These are about the lightest 13" wheel you'll find.  I have a set and have always been amazed how light they are. I've always appreciated the difference in driving a 2002 with really light wheels, especially a Roundie.  The car responds so much more quickly to steering inputs and road conditions.

Glad you were able to sell them.
