Strengthening for coilovers

Morning faq

I'll be getting a set of Gaz coilovers sorted this month. I've heard I need to do some strengthening to do so.

Do do I just need strut braces front and rear, or is it more complicated than this?

cheers

If they use the stock mounting points, the rear shock top mount may be a bit weak.

The horizontal surface that the shock mounts to is pretty thin.

A nice big reinforcement washer that spreads the load out to the edge of it would

certainly be enough to add a safety factor.  Better yet, sandwich the OE metal between 2 reinforcement plates...

In addition to strengthening the tops you will need to tie the mounting points together pretty well (more than just a flimsy strut brace, ideally in the form of a half cage).   When going to true rear coilovers in the rear the non-reinforced chassis flex is enough to pop out the rear windshield when going over something at enough of an angle (as Jeremy found out many years ago ... and another gentleman last year).
