  1. Hi FAQ At the moment I’m dropping an M44 into my 02 (long story) and have been told my radiator for the 2002 would be sufficient in cooling the M44, so I’ve been looking at getting it re-cored, but now I’ve heard from another source that it won’t be up to the job and to go aftermarket. What are the 42/44 owners running to cool their engines? Any help would be much appreciated cheers guys
  2. Good afternoon im in the process of fitting an M44 in my 02 project (till I get the 42 turbo bits together) and wondered how low your sump sits. Mine sits 1/2” below the subframe, so will certainly be making up a sump guard for it, as the car sits quite low. I was wondering how others have theirs situated in their bays cheers Dean
  3. Cheers for the replies guys I didnt quite expect a reply like Steve's. Very informative, and it lost me half way through!! Ideally, I'd know what springs put in these coilovers in the first place, and maybe go 25lb stiffer each side
  4. Morning all im still plugging away at my project, and have a bit of a dilemma. I had Gaz coilovers made for my car when it had the E10 rear end on it. Now it has an E30 rear end, the coilovers don't fit, so need to resort to separate spring/damper combo. I cant for the life of me remember my spring rates, so if any of guys have updated your springs, what lb springs are you running on the rear? Im looking for a nice and firm ride so the rear wheels don't rub the arches. Cheers in advance
  5. Thanks for the detailed reply my main objective was to strengthen the rear towers, and box/brace the front legs to the bulkhead. I did fancy making one of the rear brace and battery trays myself though, which I've heard should be tied into the diff mounting under the car. Is this overkill for what I plan on doing with the car??? I'll do a few road trips and meets through the year! The main objective of the reinforcement is to stop parts getting stressed and failing Cheers for the help
  6. Evening all im still plugging away at my 02 project when time allows, and am thinking about chassis reinforcement. I'll be running my Gaz coilovers (heard they're pretty stiff) and will be going with an M44 swap, with aims for a bit more power in the future. What at reinforcing do you recommend I do? And if you e got pictures, I'd love to see them. I'm looking at rear tower strength and front chassis leg bracing cheers in advance
  7. Cheers for the explanation Toby and Gracer I'll have to decide on a brake upgrade all round as a first port of call. I'll buy and mount the pedal box first, then pick up cylinders after. The clutch one seems pretty straight forward
  8. Cheers for your reply At the moment, the car has its standard brake setup. I've had Gaz coilovers made up from the standard struts, so does that limit me in upgrade options?
  9. Hi chapsI'm looking to buy this pedal box in the coming weekshttp://www.obpltd.com/Pedal-Boxes/Pro-R ... BP0162PRTCThe problem I'm having is how to spec brake and clutch cylinders to work with my standard brake set up on the 02. I'm more than likely going to run minus servos, so I'll of course need the box with two brake cylinders, but how big was the standard brake master, and what size pairing do I need with this box?Same goes for the clutch cylinder, although this one must be more straight forward. What size is the standard one, so I can swap it for one to mount on this box. And the page I linked says something about pedal ratios. Would this play a part in what size the cylinders need to be? The car, if it matters, is a standard brake, U.K. (Twin servo) uk 02Questions coming thick and fast at the moment. Sorry guysCheers
  10. Evening guys I've got two 02's. The one I'm most wrapped up in (and the one I'm thinking about the engine swap for) has a head stamped 118. The other car has an engine in it with the head stamped E12. I remember the guy mentioning it was a tii engine with the injection system removed. And are either of these engines worth keeping and fettling for extra power? I'm thinking carb, cam, exhaust etc. So long as I can find a 5 speed for it, mind! Cheers in advance
  11. Cheers for the replies yeah, I should have searched the forum, sorry. I did have my mind set on the M44 with all the trimmings from a ti compact, but I'm worried about sump clearance as my car will be "stanced", so I'm thinking of different options. Ideally, I want to stick with BMW, although the dream S14 is way out of budget. I pretty capable of the bodywork and fabrication bits (although making up an exhaust manifold would be beyond me). I dobt want want to get into thousands, and I want 5 forward gears, which made me think M20 (does it mount on the M10 mounts???). The he main stipulation is to stay With BMW gear
  12. Evening guys I'm still restoring my 02, and I'm thinking of ditching the M10 for something which else will give me more power, 5 speed, and be relatively cheap and easy to do (don't want much, eh!!!)The plan for a while has been M44 from a 318 compact, but I've seen a thread in which a Dutch guy has performed the same and his sump is pretty close to the floor. I doubt it'd be a problem for him, but my car will be sitting a fair bit lower than his car, and therefore the sump will be too close in my scenario. So I'm thinking of a different direction altogether. What route should I take now? Should I just guard the sump? I'm starting to think about 6 pots as being an option too (I was dead against it in the beginning, but if it gets away from the ground, 5 speed and more re power, I'm all ears!). also, if there's any pitfalls or complications with any swaps too, please point em out.So what do you lot recommend?Cheers
  13. Evening allI'm aiming to hide as much as I can in the engine bay, so I'm welding up all the holes in the inner wings, removed the brackets for the relays and washer bottle etc etc, and now I'm thinking about a pedal box with the cylinders towards the driver so I can blank off as much as I can, run brake pipes elsewhere, run servo-less and just leave a hole for the steering column. Has anyone done anything similar, or fitted a race my pedal box? I can't find anything specific for the 02. Cheers in advance
  14. No external signs? What am I looking for with a scope? I suppose a crowned or flat piston?
  15. Hi there faq im sitting here mulling over what engine I should teansplant in my 02, and wondered what differences there are between the stock 2.0, and the tii engines? I have both in each car (minus the injection system on the tii, it's on carb now), so if I wanted to run an M10 on maybe a hot cam and weber 40's etc, would the tii have any benefits over the standard M10? and how could I identify a tii engine? It's not original to the car it came with (it's in a 1602) so should it have anything to id it by? cheers Dean
  16. Not sure if I've ever put a pic up of my work in progress. This car won't be perfect, but it'll look pretty good hopefully
  17. Cheers for the reply. I I have the vertical rubber, but not the other piece. I best pick a couple up so the window bracket, vertical rubber, a seal to go round the rest of the frame, and a trim along the bottom horizontal edge? There's a few river size holes for something along the bottom edge and I'll keep that dagsites page open on my phone. That will certainly come in handy!
  18. Morning allI'm nearing the stage where I'll be bolting bits back on the car, but as I never had this car whole, I'm not sure I've got all the trim pieces that go around the side windows. I've bought all the rubber seal parts (I think), and I've got two old front doors which have trim on the top of them (one is missing the silver piece though), but how about the rear windows? Apart from the rubber seal around the frame of the window and the piece on the B pillar, what else was there? Is there an aluminium piece that runs round the top part of the recess like the piece that goes round the front door opening? if anyone has a photo of the C pillar area, to show me what's covered in trim, and what's bare, I'd be eternally grateful too!Cheers
  19. Thought I'd stick my work in progress up, seeing as it's looking like a car now, although only a glance down the side of it! Cast your eyes away from the amount of filler in there. The quarter was a mess!!
  20. This is my problem too. Ive cut away so much poor warped metal out of the quarters, and I've welded Rabbit flares on, but I welded one side with the arch over the quarter, and the other side under. With the state of the quarters, and the difference in how I did each side, it's left them different. I re-measured it, and the difference is more like 3/8"! The last thing I wanted to do was cut off and re-weld! And ive got one month till it goes Le Mans!
  21. Hi faq I've got a bit of a discrepancy in my rear arches after welding them on. The right side rear wheel sits out around 1/4" out more than the left rear wheel. I've tried using a hydraulic pump to push it across, but it took up the play in the rubbers instead. Do they usually have any movement in them? If not, I'll be cutting the arch off to do again, and that will put me on the Prozac any ideas?
  22. Evening allI don't have any seatbelts in my cars. Well one set, but they really are in a state. I was wondering if anyone is using seatbelts from another more modern car. Mainly for the ease of finding them, but obviously for the safety factor tooCheers guys
  23. Morning faq I'll be getting a set of Gaz coilovers sorted this month. I've heard I need to do some strengthening to do so. Do do I just need strut braces front and rear, or is it more complicated than this? cheers
  24. Cheers for the reply Toby I'll get it into as good a shape as possible and be happy with that. It's the sides that I'm concerned about, rather than the rear overhang
