Here are a few photos of the 2002 that was in the vendor displays at the recent Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale, AZ. It was a nicely-done car which wasn't for sale but was displayed to highlight the audio system installed in it.post-36995-0-49738700-1455480129_thumb.jpost-36995-0-26761800-1455480157_thumb.j

I like it, but someone needs to adjust the handbrake (and put the 2002 on in) :P

I've driven this car for about 20 minutes, as part of a roundel article I was apart of.

It's an aesthetically pleasing car.

What you don't say actually says a lot.

It handles great to .... after I removed somebody's bad camber plate installation (which they put on after I originally did the suspension) and a couple other looked over things underneath.

Not a great amount of power given what it's lugging around but it's not a car I can compare to my own given the different build premise.  Late model heavier car with larger wheels is not lighter body early roundie running 13's/14's.

Late or early. ..neither are helped by 400lbs of sound deadening and audio equipment. ..

So true mlytle...That's got to be close to a 3,000 lb car! It sure is purty and all looks very nicely executed...but all that weight seems incongruous with the whole '02 concept of a quick, lightweight driver's machine.

It's amazing, in either my stock tii or the M2, I INSTANTLY notice the difference in acceleration with just one large passenger in the front seat...but when you consider that a 200 lb person represents nearly 10% of a stock '02s weight, perhaps that's not so amazing after all...

I hear ya. As much as I enjoy teaching and taking riders on track, no matter how small they are, I can feel it in every brake zone, turn, and straight......

Heck, even the 35lb difference between full and half tank of fuel is noticeable.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
