Wheels have been installed for weeks, but I failed to take any decent photos.

I've started ripping the car apart in preparation for next week's paint job, so today's primary focus was removing the current sound system - entirely.

Here is what I removed from the trunk:

Here is the hole in the trunk from the subwoofer:

And here are 2/3 of the wiring:

I have a solution to fix the rear firewall, and it involved removing a donor piece from the sahara parts car.

But yeah, paint. Stoked for that.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bumpers are tucked as of this morning.

Also went ahead and replaced the front rubber bumper guards. They are specific to 1973 models, and mine were not in good shape. All fixed now.

I wanted to get the bumpers tucked before she goes off for paint. No drilling holes after paint.

Ha! First time that I drank one of those things in a few years.

I think it kept me up half the night as well!

That subwoofer hole is brutal.

Quick question, how's your E12 caliper clearance with those FPS's?

Absolutely terrible. I've grinded off more of the caliper than I care to admit, just to fit the widened NK wheels. FPS wheels, even more so. I finally gave up and added 5mm spacers all around. No more issues.

Never again will I do e12 calipers as a willing upgrade.

you're welcome to see what I've done, and what fits at the present time.

And measure, if you're into that sort of thing.

I hear that there are different variations of e12 calipers? Some that stick out past the hub farther? Any idea on these claims?

No worries.

I know of two different castings of the E12 calipers but did not see a discernible dimensional difference that mattered.  One was flat-backed while the second had nipples.

haha you said nipples.

Replaced the turn signal stock with one from a 73 parts car. Everything works swimmingly.

New on on top,
old one on bottom. Notice how it's held together with a zip tie.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
