The trim on these cars really adds a lot! Installed Belt line trim this weekend. Love the way it's transformed the car. Rocker and gutter trim left then time to install sound deadening, carpet, door panels, etc.

Felt like Ikea furniture assembly for a moment.

A beautiful result!

btw. Finished up the front bumper install. The mounting hole was just filled loosely with body filler. Crisis averted.

Been way too busy. Need to put more time into the car....

Still to-do:

gutter trim

rocker trim

carpet

door panels

center console

drive it like I stole it?

The kid loves it. Won't stop talking about it, so I let him wash it.

Been thinking about that a bit. I'd like something hidden, but at the same time very bright. I bought an LED strip that I could mount at the top of the rear windscreen, but then I started looking at the HELLA models that sit on the parcel shelf - Also looks like a good way to go. Definitely want a third brake light, but I'm undecided....

Took a day off of work today to spend time with the 2002, and what a great day it was. Ken had the car running great, but like all things there's always room for improvement. Today I met up with THE local weber guru. I'm not sure he wants his name all over the net, but I've never seen so many great multi-carbureted v8 engines. I'm already thinking of a way to have one of his intake/carb setups on something old and american... The way the man works a screwdriver alone is incredible.

Speaking of screwdrivers... He re-synced the carbs, checked/adjusted float level, adjusted mixture screws, and called it good. No more popping under part throttle while cruising and I must have picked up at least 1hp :)

He says there's more there if we want to go that far, but I think it's perfect for now.

What's a 2002 day without photos?

Still plenty work to do and imperfections here or there, but I love this car. A blast at any speed.

Not much of an update, but California DMV has started shipping legacy plates. They will look awesome on the bimmer.

Still looking for gutter trim... still need to find time to install carpet, rocker trim, etc. That said I'm closing in on 1000 miles. The car is an absolute blast!

I feel bad saying I don't have much to report, but I did add a new toy. Joining my two hobbies with an old mechanical wind stopwatch.

The car continues to be a blast to drive, and I'm still looking for gutter trim. I sourced one side from BMW, but don't recall just now which side that is. I'll get her 99% at some point soon...I hope.

Thanks for the PM!  I remember talking to Matt at Ronin and he told me all about the Guru, but I never got the contact information.

I will definitely be using him for the 1600's weber set up!

some cars

some motorcycles

some airplanes

some surfboards

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
