FYI if you want to clean up your 72's engine compartment, the wires that go to that vacuum switch are part of a separate wiring harness for the emission stuff.  If you carefully trace all the wires in that harness, you can remove the whole thing as a single bundle.  IIRC it only connects to the car's main harness at one place.
