Love the first of those three pics!!  My '66, myself and my two bestest carbuddies.  For me, that just sums up all that is good here in life...  

Just to clarify though, the 02forum is not my website.  Not even close!  It's just The '66 Bible that I've compiled - and even that has only happened with a lot of help from other '66 owners.  But I'm really glad it's been of use to you.  Have you got a thread going on your 1600-2?  I would love to learn more about your early 02...

Anders    Sorry for the confusion    I am a member of the UK 2002 site.   I jumped on back in 2010 when I started my NK project   Nice bunch of folks   

 

Don't have a thread on my 1600   Maybe one day I will put some up    Its an 1600 Ti tribute complete with early dash, Ti clock and of course side drafts    But alas, I have upgraded it to 12 volts, bigger brakes, 5 speed, and 3.90 diff.   But stock wheels and hubcaps and ultimately early seats as soon as I can find the right center material.    Its Granada like my very first 02     Come to Arkansas in April for the Mid America 02 Fest and you can see it    Great 02 event with great folks   Worth the trip across the pond I promise you

I remember your NK - was a Turf 1800 I think??  But from memory you sold it fairly recently didn't you??

Looking forward to seeing your 1600-2 project.  Sounds like you're a man with a plan!  Nice spec you've laid out for it...
Granada is a great colour too.
The Mid America 02 Fest would be awesome to visit!  Work gets me to NY, Boston, Orlando, Vegas, LA and SF every so often, but sadly no where near Arkansas.  Still, I might look into making the trip in private some day...

Sadly, Anders hasn’t visited us in some time -- here or on the UK site. His early 02 knowledge is pretty unmatched. His job as a Car Specialist at Sotheby’s nowadays keeps him pretty busy.

 

Last I heard from him was this great BMW Classic Heart podcast from June 2022.  It looks like he has an instagram acct  - you might try reaching him that way…

Anders, I provided that info 10 years ago under my previous profile and just noticed your comment. I've attached a few pics of the grab handles. One of the pics is of the headliner and the grab handle to a 1967 1600-2. Notice the small chrome hook which slides along the grab handle. On the very early cars, I believe 66, only, possibly some 67 cars,  it was made of metal. But, then they switched to plastic with a faux chrome coating before finally just going to plain black plastic. It's worth researching this overlooked detail. I will go through my parts stash for each example.

I’m curious whether the timing of the metal coat hooks aligns with the provision of the aluminum billet-style interior rear view mirror, as also seen in your photo. 
 

The U.S. safety standards for 1968 probably mandated a “breakaway” style rear view mirror (spring-loaded in this instance), but the earlier billet-style mirror (a slide-in design) might have disappeared earlier for… budgetary reasons.

 

I hope someone is looking at the timing for both the mirrors and the coat hooks!
