Gotta include some my dad owned but I drove regularly to make it sound decent.

'80 Pontiac Grand LeMans (i.e., Chevy Malibu) -- looked nice but slow as snot with a 229 V6-auto; had been in the family since '84 and became my high-school car in '95

'85 VW GTi -- 8V, CR 5-spd, we were second owner in '98 (first was a family friend); my dad bought for me as my college car, wish I had it back

'89 F-150 -- 300 I6, 5-spd; dad got it for me to drive for the summer of '99 working for a camp in TN

'93 Plymouth Acclaim -- slow and boring but decently reliable with 2.5L four and 3-spd auto; my wife's car, bought for her in 2000 before we were married (still have)

'91 Mercury Grand Marquis -- a boat I sold as soon as was polite after the wedding (my wife had been given it by her folks)

'71 2002 -- the stock beauty my dad bought new but that lived with a friend for a while; a gift from my dad in 2001, about six months before he died (will have forever)

Once I have a garage, I'll also inherit my dad's '54 GMC 1/2-ton pickup with a 5-window cab and original 270 six/4-spd automatic drivetrain. It's a nice truck.

I need to buy some cars of my own -- only one was a car that I actually picked out myself, and that's a Plymouth Acclaim?!?!? Anyone got a winter-car candidate? :-)

Here's the list:

'69 BMW 2002 Florida w/ sunroof, died of rust, RIP

'65 BMW 1800 the nk disease begins, sold

'71 BMW 2500 co-owned w/ best friend, wrecked

'71 BMW 1600-2 gift from best friend, sold

'91 Nissan Sentra SE-R my first new car, sold to my sister w/ 240k, should have kept it

'65 BMW 1800TI because I needed something to tinker with, still have it

'88 BMW 535i my first "family car", traded it for the tii but wish I still had it

'73 BMW 2002tii the reason for the next two beaters, still have it

'85 Toyota Camry $500 beater w/ all my money going into the tii, sold

'91 Nissan Sentra SE-R because I was tired of the Camry, mismatched paint and dents everywhere, sold

'02 Subaru WRX wagon practical & fun, still have it (and it'd better last awhile)

'70 BMW 1600-2 Maisgelb w/ sunroof, just arrived on Monday, bought it because I missed my '69

Plus a few 02 and Neue Klasse parts cars along the way...

Nice to see some longer lists. FWIW, my wife has owned only 3 cars and thinks that one car should be enough. Somehow, she has learned to live with my disease but still wants her own garage space.

ISO: more friends and relatives with empty garage space.

Not likely.

I'd have to change my name to:

Delia Nicole Smith

I bought it as a reward for a succesful year as a designer. I'd just returned from Korea and needed to give myself something. I'd not had a new car since 1979, so I went out and found the most powerful and frivolous car I could find...275 hp and top speed of 160mph. White on white leather...looked like a chest freezer on steroids...one of just less than 2000 produced.

It was fun for the first week. After that, I wanted something that was a little lower in profile...a car I could pick my nose in and not get caught.

I drove it on the highway at speeds over 145mph. It was a rush, but that was the only thing it would do - go fast.

I sold it after I missed a deer at 100+ mph late one night on the Interstate.

I now prefer jewelry as gifts.

Delia

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
