not because I am that young, either. I guess I found what I liked and stuck with it.

1969 Triumph Spitfire MkIII - first car, bought in '84 before I had my DL, learned to drive and took my driving test in it. No interior, primer, mismatched bias ply tires - surprised the DMV tester got in it! Still have it... it sits, awaiting restoration.

1972 Datsun 510 4dr - bought as a reliable alternative to the Triumph in '86. Great car. Sold to a friend's brother in '87.

1973 Datsun 240Z - all my 510 buddies were putting 240Z parts in their 510s, so I figured might as well go to the source. Fast car with crappy tires, rusty as hell, lucky I survived owning it.

1973 2002, Fjord - The beginning... "Officially" transferred to my ownership from my brother in '91. Car is now an organ donor owing to pervasive structural rust.

1973 2002, Verona - My present daily driver, the one I drove to Oktoberfest in Keystone (from Vancouver BC) last year.

1972 2002, Golf - Acquired in february, sort of fell in my lap cheap and I may have saved it from the wrecker. Paint looks much better than my '73 but it is very rusty underneath... will be my backup car when I get around to repairing the brakes.

regards,

Zenon

Not totally thrashed, but cheap. Cheap is good. Like sub-$1000. Doesn't even have to be great in the snow, since we don't get much here in Kentucky. Just want to keep my '02 out of the too-much, too-late salt they seem to throw down at every flurry around here.

Not that I'd mind a new Subie, but I can't swing that right now. Thanks!

Starting with first high school/college car in '83:

'81 Subaru 2-door coupe -- mini 6-series, bulletproof, boring

'90 Mitsu Eclipse Turbo -- first and only "new" car

'71 BMW 2002 -- had wanted one since starting college

'88 BMW M3 -- bought in '92, still have it, under 80K miles

'89 Toyota MR2 -- lots of fun and good in snow

'88 BMW 325iX -- still one of my favorites

'02 GMC Envoy -- wife's SUV, transports the dog

'74 BMW 2002tii -- restored, just bought in May

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
