Seeking Info 1973 VIN 2591460

So,

Carfax does not go back to 1973.

Real OEM says my 73 02 is an 88 318i (???)

bmw2002registry.com/ does not work from my

computer/cannot find site.

Forum search refers to "Atlantik" w/no specifics other

than the name. Google search for this nada.

How do I find info on my car?

Any help would be much appreciated.

My car does not have stock motor.

It has an 2.7 (I think) M20 w/a distributor, and carb manifold,

atop which sits a Holley 390 carb. Trans is an unknown 4speed.

I thought first I'd track down (so I thought) the easy stuff before

trying to figure out what has been stuffed into this car.

Was going to post another thread re THAT inquiry once I have

some some numbers off the Block, Head, and Trans.

I think you've exhausted all of your options but I might be wrong... I think there was another registry somewhere. Also, there is a vin decoder somewhere that will give you very basic useless info about your car

Club BMW 2002 Columbia has a good VIN de-coder. It's not as precise as the source c.d. uses, but for your car, for instance, it shows it to be a U.S. '73 model year car produced between January and August '73.

VIN 2585137 and ran through 2593704, so yours is fairly late in the production run.

You can e-mail BMW Classic (check archives for the e-mail address) and they can tell you the car's date of production, original color and to whom it was initially delivered. This was probably Hoffman Motors, the importer at the time, but it could have been an overseas delivery to an American tourist, diplomat or military member.

Here's the email address at BMW Group Classic to send to: info.konzernarchiv@bmwgroup.com

I will do this, and would like to thank everyone

for the help!

I just got my car running (thanks to Patrick

@Midnight Motorsports) and driveable after sitting

for 4yrs. in my driveway. Am finding everyone here a

resource and a very friendly community of our cars.

Thank you.

Regards,

Rick G

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
