What carb?

Hi, I've got a '74 Automatic - converted to manual, otherwise standard.

I'm thinking about upgrading the Solex carb - it looks like the obvious choices are the Weber 32/36 DGEV, twin 40 DCOE's, twin 45's...

What is the recommendation? Extra power would be nice, but not critical - i'm more interested in an easy set up and driveability... though nothing beats the look and sound of a pair of twin 45's...

I went to a 38/38. Love it, I had a 32/36 before. It was also a nice carb on my motor when it was stock. i upgraded to A 38/38 when I went to higher compression pistons, bigger cam etc

32/36 is really good overall for a stock motor. I think I read about a sync link you can add to really wake it up

You're going to get a million different opinions, none of which are wrong.

I'd say go dual DCOE40's, not any more power than a well tuned 38/38. But, oh the noise!

FWIW, I spoke to a Redline rep about a carb for a 73 automatic I was looking into buying, and he recommended a K204-38.

I recently put a 32/36 on a stock motor that I rebuilt and I must say it starts very easily, good fuel economy, surprisingly responsive I am more than happy . My other 02 have 2 x 45dcoe but they are not the most driveable carb for street use yes the sound great but PITA around town.32/36 good value for money , for the cost buy a new one, no problems.

Think 40's are more ideal for general street use over 45's. Full-disclaimer, currently running 38/38 and very happy with it. It's tuned enough that there was not a large drop in fuel consumption over the 32/36 unless I romp on it.

Andrew, I may need some tips on tuning my 38/38. It seems its always rich...no matter what I do. I do have those DCOE 40s on the shelf that I want to drop in for "the sound".

To the OP. On a stock engine, I vote for a 32/36. 38/38 is too much carb for a stock engine.

Great feedback guys - I'll probably go for 32/36, seems to be a good all rounder and good price too.

Still itching to put noisy twin45 side draughts on with huge chrome trumpets :-) I also have a Westfield-SEiW with a Toyota 4AGE running twin45's - awesome woooosh of air on hard acceleration!

Good choice for a std motor . I have a Westfield SEW with a 4AGE 20v silvertop., Quad throttle bodies give you bit of induction noise as well.
