Help! Confusing smoke issue: 1974 2002Tii

Recommended Posts

...."as for a head gasket replacement,

I am assuming if that is the issue

you should go ahead and have

the head redone in addition.

Correct? I would assume the

valve guides are original, but I do not know" .....=

you do not know anything and cannot assume

untill the head has been removed, cleaned,

measured and inspected. untill then any estimate

is OPEN.

..."If it is a crack, that could only be found

out if it is removed and tested for cracks correct?".....= correct

and with a tii that has never been apart, there are many

other repoairs needed while 'in there' to avoid repeated

labor on future repairs/restoration because of

40 years/1000's of miles. Hoses, gaskets, seals, clutch,

mounts, filters, steering/suspension, exhaust, electrical -

all need attention while the head is off and ease

of access while off - for reliability and your safety.

your NOT purchasing a new car and will not

'just drive it for kicks on the weekend' and not have to

pay serious dues.
