Problem diagnosis please!

During the drive today, the red lamp with the L went on, but I had no problems while driving, and anyway, I strolled through the German manual(the only I have) i found out that it is battery-related. What could it be?

Did you put a volt meter on anything yet?

bad wires to battery

bad plug/wires at back of alternator - wiggle it

You're not charging, usually due to a fault in the alternator, or as CD said,

the wiring.

Yup, time for voltmeter.

my guess: you're not charging. Everything works just fine until the battery drains down.

14 years ago I was at Lake Isabella and in the morning the light flickered ever so slightly. I immediately headed for home .... 177 miles later (9 miles from home) the battery finally gave out on I-5 in Downey.

A new Bosch alternator took care of it .... still running just fine.

out, it's probably missing the wire bail that's supposed to hold it in place. Note that there are 2 screws in the alt. body, each with a little clip under it; That's what holds the bail in place. They're spring steel, and will break and fall off without your noticing. With the wire bail, the plug won't fall out from vibration.
