4.10 LSD and pictures from Vintage Racing Guatemala

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I just bought this 4.10 LSD @25% from an E21, the guy told me he bought it off ebay about 1 or 2 years ago, he said it was NOS. He installed in his stock tii and used it for like 60 miles or so but didn't like it. I applied some Prussian blue and both ring and pinion look like new!

I'm very happy with this acquisition and will install it tomorrow night. Actually I have the 3.64 open diff and hope to have a lot more fun with this one! I have a question, it has some numbers like "hand written" on the ring, reads like "4933" next to the stamped "H1 . B" any ideas what does this mean?

I’ve seen on aardvarc’s site the same one for like $1,095.00 I got this one for $500.00: traded in a 3.91 LSD E36, a single barrel intake manifold and $200.00 I think I got a good deal since those things were stored and useless for me.

This diff is going to my Vintage Racer, some specs:

1975 2002 VIN# 3699772

Color is Diamantschwarz from E30 M3

12.5:1 forged pistons

Total Seal rings

Lightened rods

Aluminum flywheel

BMW 300° Sport Cam

Ported and polished E12 head

2 Weber 40DCOE carbs

TWM intake manifolds and linkage

IE Mech advance distributor

MSD 6AL @ 7000rpm and MSD Blaster 2 coil

4 to 1 custom made header and 2.5” exhaust pipe

Magnum Supersprint muffler

H&R Sport springs

Bilstein sport shocks

BBS RS001 15” x 7” wearing Ventus RS-2 tires 205/50

Korman Schnitzer type widebody kit

Turbo replica front spoiler

E30 318is front and rear seats

Momo Indy steering wheel

And more stuff…

I want to share with you some pictures of it from our last race on april 17th. I got the pole position and 1st place on GT1 category (modified engines from 1800cc to 2300cc) All other cars are GT2 (modified engines from 1000cc to 1799cc) My only competition was a light blue Volvo P1800 with a 2.3L and a friend’s 02 that crashed on first lap, he´s running a pair of solex 40PHH. This is a very small but fun track! Lap times range from 34 to 30 secs, my best lap was 30.54.

I hope you like it and any comments or suggestions are so welcome!

Jorge.

car looks sweet....thats alot of compression...is it steetable?..idle/ drivability?

congrats!...

Thanks! well, idle is stable but a little rough. As far as "streetability" I've developed a precise right foot but my wife still doesn't like to ride on it, she says "it is a cute car but it's too unconfortable, such a harsh ride and I hate that gas smell" hahaha!!!

NEAT! but,

you RACE without rollbar/cage, and just 3-point seat belt ??

loose reguations ?

You're right, not the tightest regulations. I've been working on my rollcage and a different seat and seat belts that I need for the next race on May 22nd!

Per the Blue Book rear axle specifications (9.75 alteration):

H1 is the code for a Gleason 4:10:1 ratio differential from 1502, 1602 and 1802 model cars.

41 teeth on the ring and 10 on the pinion

Hmmm.... so it isn't an E21 but 15/16/1802? good to know... but they all came with 4.10 open or optional 4.11 LSD with 40% lockup, right? Mine is 25% or at least that's stamped in it, "S25" so it may be from an E21 315 or 316, could be?

Here's the pic showing the stamped "H1.B" and handwritten "4933" also I see a stamed "R"

Sorry but I don't have an E21 BMW manual.

The Haynes E21 manual indicates the 316 came with either a 4.11:1 or 4.10:1 ring and pinion.

The 320 had either a 3.9:1 or 3.91:1 R&P.

The 320i had a 3.64:1

For the North American E21's:

Manual cars: 3.91:1

Automatic cars: 3.64:1

The Hayes manual does not mention an LSD (from what I could find).

Maybe someone here with a proper E21 manual can add...

For comparison purposes, here is the Klingelnberg ring gear from my 3.64:1 open diff rear end. Not sure what the 4-digit hand etched number denotes.

i was thinking the same thing. 30sec laptimes though, can't be that long a track...low speed maybe.

also note the spectators really close to the track.
