Cardboard underdash repair

Anyone have a good method of repairing the cardboard underdash pieces where the screw holes have been torn off? This is the place where the metal clips would go to hold the screws.

You can pick up a small remnant of heavy cardstock from an auto upholstery shop. It's pretty much the same thickness and strength of the original cards. Using a new Exacto blade, or similar, cut out the damaged area in a shape that will be easy to duplicate with new material. Use the cut out space as a template for the new piece and glue it in using a quality contact cement. If you have some 3M spray, you can spray that into a small disposable container and then brush it onto the edges of both surfaces. Let the glue dry or quicken the process with a heat gun. Then carefully press the new piece into place. For further strength, add a bridge of new card stock across the back of the repair using the same glue or cement. The material I have used has a satin black facing, so painting or dying isn't required.

pop-riveting a small piece of sheet aluminum (painted black) over the torn out spot and then running the fastening screws into the aluminum.

i've been epoxying thin-stock pieces of aluminum over torn areas and painting it satin black. i also squeeze the panels between two boards to straighten them out if they're sagging (as they typically do). bigger pieces of aluminum epoxied to sagging panels does wonders to keep them in shape.

Actually I have had excellent luck with elmers glue and either old or new stock (home depot) Using the glue and shredded paper towel to help hold the repair piece in place it is not as invasive as pop rivets...

IIRC, use SEM brand "Landou Black" spray paint on those pieces to make them look better. You can buy it at Eastwoods.
