carb question

Recommended Posts

you guys were all quite helpful when I was putting my new weber 32/36 on

I had jetting questions... bottom line- I installed with the mystery jetting from weberdirect and it seems fine- idles rock solid etc.

today drove about 200 miles- Bay Area to Jenner CA & back beautiful day.

question: on downhill with the engine in gear

i often get a lot of black smoke out the back.

i have mixture screw adjusted for best idle.

it's only on downhill / deceleration I get this smoke

any ideas

we're talking about '74 2002-weber 32/36- vacuum adv dist.

then i'd try leaning it out and readjusting the best idle...someone else may be more help...i know very little other than what i've figured out from my own cars

as i understand it, you get the fuel/air mixture right then adjust for best idle...

i've had a lot of webers and never look'd at jetting or even knew what jet were in them but they all run very well and i change them around from car to car....i always have to futz with the mix and idle anytime i swap from one to another car

also will get the same when rings are going bad...or the valves need adjusting....may not be the carb at all.

....then it's either your float level too high ?

or the usual worn valve guides and hardened valve guide seals

have someone else drive your car down hill and

you follow in another car to observe the real

smoke story........

any chance you can tell us WHAT the jet sizes are ?

use a 0.006" - 0.008" go/no-go feeler

or a 0.006" feeler

COLD - Intake & Exhaust

you might consider changing the oil and filter

if the car has been running puky for a few hundred miles

When the oil gets deluted and gas fouled - it will

pass through into the combustion chamber causing

smoking
