Yikes....putting it away away for the season turned into over a year and a half.   Work,  retiring and beemers got in the way.  Gotta teach at a BMW track school this weekend,  so time to get the M2 out of hibernation!

retired two weeks ago and starting to catch up on all the hobbies!

put about 700 miles on JGerock's tii attending OFest.  So nice to drive a 2002 on the street.  His car is the perfect combo of sporty and comfortable.

now it is in temp storage completing the BMW sweep of my shop.  roundels only!

got the M2 up on the lift for nose to tail examination.

new front rotors installed with PF01 brake pads.  using a "floating" rotor this time as a last attempt to mitigate the horrible pad knockback from the larger brake rotors.

rear just got PF01 pads.  got to use my caliper modification to drive the pistons back in to fit the pads.

then did full brake flush.  yikes...there was still some blue in the color from old ATE Super Blue brake flluid.  last used that a couple years ago.

dropped the suspension about 3/4in front and rear and dialed 3.5deg camber into the front.

also realized the trailer needed some maint.  tires had a 2009 date code even though they looked good.  two of the four new trailer tires visible by door of garage in third pic.

weather not looking good for the event though.  chance of showers on sat and a wash out forecast for sunday....m2 may not get much use. argh!

ok...track footage attached...

two track weekends have past.  have been chasing two issues...front brake knockback and fueling.

front brakes - installed floating rotors. this fixed the knockback issue, but introduced serious brake vibration. only happens on light to medium brake application, so i just only brake HARD...:-)

fueling. first issue last year was over rich condition.  problem was found to be a pinched fuel return hose.  fixed over winter.

new issue this season was an over lean condition after about 10-15min on track.  took me a bit to figure out that it was the new AIRTEX lift pump in the tank.  cheap junk.  replaced with my old bosch pump.  works fine.

last weekend was instructing on the Summit Point Shennendoah Circuit.  two miles, twenty turns.  here are a few laps.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
