BLUNT

Recommended Posts

Wow Steve - I've always wanted one too - but like Tty said - I'm not allowed. Yet. Of course - she also initially said I could only have 1 extraneous car.....

When I was really looking hard, I looked at cycletrader, but also here:

http://www.bluemooncycle.com/classicbike.html

They seem to have a lot of airheads, and they seem pretty knowledgeable.

I also bought this book:

http://www.amazon.com/How-Restore-Your-BMW-Twin/dp/0760322627/ref=sr_1_39?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1281272964&sr=1-39

which I think is pretty good.....

Looks awesome.

Later,

Ken

WAIT A MINUTE! Is that a REAL Shelby California Special in that garage??

The GT/CS Mustangs were just Fords, not Shelbys per se. And mods were strictly cosmetic -many were not even GTs, and a few were 6 cylinder cars. Still, you don't see many around these days.

Cool bike.

Just found a neat CS specific website (www.californiaspecial.com). Here are the features from the website:

1968 CALIFORNIA SPECIAL & 1968 HIGH COUNTRY SPECIAL

Fiberglass trunk lid and quarter extensions

1965 Thunderbird tail lights

Pop-off gas cap

Fiberglass side scoops

Chrome quarter panel script (GT/CS only)

Unique body striping

Blacked out front grille

Fog lights (Marchal or Lucas)

Quarter turn hood locks

Only coupes used. No convertibles or fastbacks

Any regular Mustang engine, option or color available

Built only at San Jose plant

4118 GT/CS cars produced (confirmed by Paul Newitt through Kevin Marti using Ford records. Previously estimated at 4025)

251 '68 HCS cars produced (confirmed by Bob Teets through Kevin Marti using Ford records. Previous promo literature states 250)

Jim Gerock

Riviera 69 2002 built 5/30/69 "Oscar"

you are a man of good taste Blunt. That is my speed right there.

CD is your man for this and I see he has given you some basics already.

I like the earlier bikes with the Earles forks. The later ones (68+) have the US telescopic forks. This one looks choice. Matching numbers a plus on this one.

The earlier ones also dont have all of the US regulation reflectors, etc. etc. and they have the lugs for the side cars where the later ones had this deleted.

But, the earlier ones are a bit slower (hp) compared to the later ones.

On the East coast they average from $6.5k-$12k respectively depending on condition.

Rock on.

Besides Duane's site (which is excellent), Darrell Richman

http://darryl.crafty-fox.com/ and Craig "Vech" Vechorik at Benchmarks

http://www.benchmarkworks.com/

are the masters of the /2 and older Airheads. Also, look at the website for the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners (which I am a member and I believe c.d. is as well) http://vintagebmw.org/v7/

As c.d. mentioned, these bikes have roller cranks and the oiling is rudimentary with no filter, only a screen and the oil slingers are critical to the care and longevity of the motor. I also have a '61 R69S, that slots nicely next to my '70 02. BTW, if properly restored and maintained, that bike is worth a fair chunk of change.

Built only at San Jose plant

Sorry.

They were built in Milpitas.

I know Ford always called it the "San Jose" plant, but the zip code was always 95035.

I guess it's sort of like BMW wanting to have their US plant in Spartanburg because at least it sounds German. The BMW plant is in Greer.

I guess I can tell everyone that I own a home in Pacific Heights...it's only just down the road 30 minutes. Close enough?

(Raised in Milpitas back when they still built cars there)
