How to store a rebuilt head?

I have a fully rebuild head that i picked up recently.

It was rebuilt maybe $10k ago and then taken off the car.

I plan on storing it until the fall or so. maybe longer until i can get around to swapping it with mine.

what is the best way to store it?

I was thinking of spraying it with WD40 and sealing it in a trash bag or two.

Any other ideas?

I do not intend to tear it apart since it was recently machined and rebuilt. i think it was actually about 4-5k on the head. not 10. either way,

so lather it up in motor oil and seal it in a bag.

That is tonight's project.

Thanks.

Yup, and get as much air out as you can...

The clear bag's a real winner- if something starts to rust,

you can catch it in time. I used a garbage bag once,

and pulled out a rusty mess years too late...

DO NOT LAY IT WITH THE VALVES/HEAD-GASKET

SURFACE DOWN!

unless you have a thick piece of cardboard or

foam to prevent bending valves

ooooo yah, CD's dead on- setting a head with a cam in it onto a

flat surface is a good way to bend a valve.

I take the cams out.

Mine sits in a closet inside the house, on a folded up towel, on top of a piece of cardboard. Assembly lube on all of the bearing surfaces on the camshaft.

Nice, dry climate inside. Been in there for 2 years now - no problems.
