Bosch SR441X starter - wiring question *** SOLVED ***

.  I have blue coil, no ballast/resistor, and pertronix.  Was running before I dismantled the car but I didn't take pics of the starter wiring before i took it apart. 

As 7502 says above you need to have 12v coming from fuse 12 to the coil positive side.

 

If you have a blue coil and no ballast resistor you don't need the black/red wire. The point of the red/black wire was to bypass the ballast resistor on starting.

 

Your petronix unit may have crapped out on you.

So, 1976 car with a blue coil (3 ohm),  Pertronix, and an SR441X starter, I had to run a new single wire from hot side of fuse 12 to the positive side of the coil.  Just having the black/red resistor wire there not doing anything prevented the car from running.  If I plugged it in to the upper terminal on the starter it would fire and then die as soon as I let off the starter. If i didn't plug it in at all i didn't get spark. So just getting rid of it, like completely, out of the car, gone- and using the green/clear wire gives me spark and the engine stays running.  Now I've got to try to sync and tune these DCOEs...

Johnny02,

The Black/red wire from #15 on the starter solenoid only provides +12V to the +coil when the starter is activated (ign. switch on START).

This is to bypass the resistor wire (or external resistor) in series with the hot side of fuse #12 to the coil+.

Glad to see you ran a wire directly from fuse #12 (hot side) to the Bosch Blue coil.  No need for the resistor wire or the Black/red wire.

Aloha.  Same dang thing. Just put in same starter. The top tab does not provide any power with key on. Trigger wire on bottom.  Red wire that feeds everything when jumped to + on battery kicks car on, electric fuel pump etc car fires right up. Electronic ignition, SK 40's, mech distributor. Runs like a sewing machine.  Removed the original 76' starter.  What feeds the top tab? shouldn't car come on with key?   What am I missing here?IMG_3413.thumb.JPG.951a3d880a2ffddd6555094e0bb0e7ae.JPG
