Engine and Induction - Different Styles

Engine and Induction - Different Styles

There were not many variations of BMW 2002 engines that came off the factory floor in Munich 40 years ago, but over the years, people have made some changes, and some things have remained the same.  Here is a collection of the types of engines and inductions you would be able to find in a BMW 2002 at your local car show.

This is what things are supposed to look like

Neat!

Just some thoughts:

Don't forget the factory ti with dual Solex sidedrafts.

All of the single downdraft Solexes I've seen have mechanical chokes.

There is an early E21 CIS iteration that looks a lot like the tii manifold.  The injectors are

mounted in the manifold in this version.

The later CIS is considered either mechanical, or electric, but not electronic, as most

of the metering is done with a flapper door.  And that's a 1.8L engine, with the injectors

mounted in bosses in the head itself.

Many have fitted the E30 EFI, which looks similar to the later CIS,

but actually works.

Lol, in my cars I've had exactly zero of the factory setups but almost every single aftermarket induction, aside from turbos and engine swaps!  Whenever I get around to doing another car, I want to try a new one to add to your list: Lynx with a single sidedraft throttle body injection! Will send you a pic if I ever get it done. In the meantime, here's my current EFI setup:
