  1. I just put a new water pump on. It is very difficult for me to allign the holes on the water pump with the pulley and the fan. I found that some old valve cover studs fit in the water pump, allowing me to slide the pulley and fan on and then removed a stud and installed one bolt at a time. See photo below. This probably saved me lots of frustration.
  2. I have noticed the same improvement and ease of steering with brand new tires.
  3. You made his day. How far was the rallycross? What kind's of roads did you go on?
  4. So I took my 13.5 inch steering wheel out and put my bus wheel back in and pumped the tires up from 25psi (it's getting cold here) to 34psi. I find it fun to see the difference this makes.
  5. http://www.workshoponline.co.uk/showdetails.asp?id=755 instantly chills seized and rusted parts (bolts, nuts, studs) down to -43 °C. The exceptional shock freeze effect causes microscopic cracks in the layer of rust, allowing the lubricating ingredient to wick directly into the rust by capillary action. Pep boys told me they have a CRC version called Feeze off (your nuts??) http://www.crcindustries.com/files/Freeze-Off%20Brochure.pdf Report back results here.
  6. Impact wrench not needed. The nuts came off easy. It is the shafts of 2 of the 4 bolts that won't slide out of the tube through the subframe. Anyone have any suggestions for something really cold I could spray the bolt with while I am flaming the tube?
  7. Hi, I have the rusted bolts on the rear subframe mount bushing. These are the bolts that go horizontally through a sleve in the subframe. Initial pounding with a sledge did nothing so I have been spraying every day with PB Blaster and giving them some wacks. Since it has been 34 years, I don't have a problem doing this every day for a month or so, but don't want to waste my time. Should I just get supper burly with hammers and torches and ice or should I keep soaking and wacking for a month or so? Or to my orginial question, has anyone ever soaked a rusted bolt with penetrating oil for an extended period and seen it make any difference? Is there something better than PB Blaster? The can reads like Dr Bronners for the gargage (watch for the movie.)
  8. A fellow told me this place has lots of BMWs I have not tried it, but the inventory looks good. http://www.brimsimport.com/index.htm Brim's Import Auto PO Box 471 15363 County Rd 140 East Kenton, OH 43326 Phone: 800-221-3874
  9. My car has had this rust for the 20 years I have had the car and I haven't had a problem but would like to repair it so I could feel good about selling my car some day. This rust is under the rear seat and above where the subframe mount goes on both sides of the car. I don't see any rust from underneath. Has anyone ever patched this area? Of course the gas tank must come out first. I always wondered if the previous owner had an off road experinece that pushed the area up.
  10. We once found an very old beer can in the woods that was never opened. So what do 5 guys in college do? Open it and passs it around! No one died. But for my 02, I have started using the BMW anti-freze.
  11. I get the 5qt mobil 1 and just pour the whole thing in. Oil pressure doesn't seem different. What do you think?
  12. Are you on the board? Saw your car on the way out after a three way and a coney. The whole family said, hey there's a car like yours, even the in-laws. Peace.
  13. FYI on nice little write up. ....The real attraction of the 02 is that, once properly set up, it handles like it's being borne aloft by a phalanx of angels. That said, the celestial carriers are a temperamental shower - rub them up the wrong way and they won't think twice about spinning you backwards into the nearest pole. Which, of course, is half the fun. .... Full story here. http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/motors/2007/0321/1173880658968.html
  14. The Scotsman March 10, 2007, Saturday TSMAG Edition What matters to me: Emma Pollock BYLINE: Interview by Gaby Soutar Singer, songwriter and ex-Delgado member What's the best bit on your personality CV? I would say it's the fact that my door is always open to people. And the worst? I'm afraid that I'm a rubbish host so if anyone does come through my door, they'd probably end up having to make their own cup of tea and go down the shop to buy milk, as our fridge is always empty. What are your earliest memories? It would be when we were living in Carluke and I was playing with snooker balls in the garden. There were green fields all around and I also remember the house seeming huge because I could hardly reach the doorknobs. I must have been at pre-school. Describe yourself as a food/car/drink. If I were a car I'd have to be a 1970s BMW 2002. I have no idea if this has any relevance to me person- ally, other than that I just love it and love classic cars in general. How do you stay in love? You should just forget about routine and do what you feel. Is money the root of all evil? No, the human condition is the root of all evil. What keeps you up at night? My five-year-old son. Who or what makes you laugh? Again, my five-year-old son. As well as the hilarious Larry David in Curb Your Enthusiasm. Who's your biggest influence? I don't know about influence, but I absolutely adore Kate Bush. What object would you save in a fire? I couldn't sur- vive without my coffee machine. What was your life's main turning point? It was when I discovered music in Glasgow while I was at university. Perfect Sunday? I'd start with a lie-in followed by fresh coffee, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast. My preferred location would be somewhere in Italy with my 1972 BMW 2002 parked outside. n Emma Pollock will be performing as part of the Tennent's Versacoustic tour at Fat Sam's, Dundee, 20 March; The Bongo Club, Edinburgh, 21 March; and at The Goat, Glasgow, 22 March. Tickets are not for sale but will be available to fans who register on www.myspace.com/versacoustic *** http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=75686878 Just an FYI.

  17. Thanks for the great photo and question. Since mine is intermittent I think it might be the head gasket. Car runs great so I am not too worried.
