  1. Recently went through majority of my brake system: -new calipers/pads/rotors -new drums/shoes/wheel cylinders -new stainless steel lines -new reservoir and lines to master cylinder Prior to this had sufficient brake pedal but leaking components (WC mostly) and knew refresh would help. System completely drained when I removed the rubber lines. Reservoir I replaced after all the components had been replaced. Original Master Cylinder and slave remain. I bled the brakes (my son helping with pedal pumping) and got a lot of air out. I think I need to do it again as way more came out the fronts than I got at the back, and I still have a pedal that goes nearly to the floor before any braking happens. Tomorrow will redo. Made me think though…am I doing it right? I’m doing the typical RR first, then LR, then RF and finishing with LF. Fronts I did top bleeder first, then outer, then inner. That’s it though. Am I doing it right? Am I missing any steps? advice welcome! pablo
  2. What? I’m using the green ones already and installed them in the existing rubber receivers. Couple were missing so I wanted to complete them. You’re telling me the green clips don’t even need them?! Good to know. Thanks.
  3. 1972 2002tii First, the door panel clips-what is the part number of the hat shaped bit that is in the door, that accepts the clip? In the below poor diagram item #3 is the typical green clip that attaches to the door panel. #2 is the receiver, but there's no part number for that and I need a few. Second, early 4 speed shifter. Shifting into next county is what it feels like. Now, cars been neglected a bit so the bushings and such are f'd up. In fact the bushings at the bottom of the shift lever are completely missing. What I want, in a perfect world, is a nice crisp short shift. Ive done some racing and have always had sports cars, so that's kinda my benchmark. What are my best options? I've researched here and the IE late shifter upgrade seems to have some issues, and I've been told by friends its not a huge improvement 'upgrading' to the later shifter. I've also read here that just rebuilding the stock shifter is a good improvement. A 5-speed is not in the cards anytime soon. What do you all think?
  4. Car is finally back on the ground. Will probably need to bleed the brakes again based on the pedal. System was dry so took some work (started with gravity). wanted to test drive but battery went dead after a few weak cranks. Has been sitting for 4 weeks. will charge the battery and try again tomorrow night. Also replaced the broken rubber bumperettes on back with some good spares that came with the car. Of course couldn’t find one of them so desperate measures were taken in the interim.
  5. That looks amazing. Is it compatible with a Momo adapter or did it come with its own?
  6. I’ve heard good things about Intercity. I shipped my 02 from TN to CA a few months back when I bought it using Montway. Good price for open trailer. I was happy with them. Was quick too!
  7. Ireland Engineering Stage 1 front and rear springs. these are effectively brand new. I installed them, parked the car, then got a screaming deal on different suspension setup so pulled the springs. They have about 1-2 miles on them from moving the car around. from IE: ”lower car approx 1.25”; ideal for street driven 02’s. Firm and sporting, but not harsh, ride. paid $225 new. will accept $180 plus shipping. Local pick up ok too. Selling these locally as well.
  8. willing to ship to 90403, Santa Monica (Los Angeles area)?
  9. That’s some good company. I’d imagine a good paint job came of that.
  10. The whole internal assembly disintegrated as I was taking it out. Might explain the Brake Failure light on dash being on lol.
  11. Really well. The whole kit is easy to install. Couple things to note. -I thought the kit came with new hoses. Good thing I took the old ones off gently. I ended up reusing them. -The grommets came out of mine flipped compared to how you show yours. So I put them back in that way, meaning the narrower part goes inside the MC. I think that fits inside the little washer thats at the bottom of that orifice. -The kit came with a reservoir slightly different than my original. On my 2002tii the reservoir has a screen mesh inside just below the cap, but has the plunger below it with the connecting rod going through the mesh. The new reservoir I received (from Ireland Eng) has a screen mesh AND a plunger with rod, but can't use both, only one. Not sure why. The grommets and nipples were the only difficult part really. Need to fill and bleed the brakes. Can't until I get my brake pads. Ordered the wrong front ones so waiting on replacements. Pablo-

    Bought an e12!

Any updates on this? I have a soft spot for the e12. Growing up, when I was in high school (and driving) my dad had one. I drove it all the time. My introduction to BMW. Now look at me...(e10/e30/e39 M5) LOL.
  13. That’s how I did it. But whole assembly wouldn’t go in together at all, even with persuasion. I almost ripped the first one.
  14. They’re in, just one plastic nipple isn’t seated fully.
  15. More fun, more questions. Really, there’s more I’m doing that don’t have issues so I don’t post lol. I’m trying to install the reservoir refresh kit. I had searched and read some things about getting the nipples and rubber grommets into the master. Several hours later I have them both on but the rear one doesn’t look fully seated. Looks like the lip at the bottom of nipple isn’t past the rubber grommet and properly seated. I have tried everything to get it seated. So… 1) is that sufficient or will it surely leak? 2) is there a trick I should try to get it to drop further to seat properly?
  16. Intersperse with the big projects I’m also tackling small pet peeve projects. Lol. Cleaned up some wiring in the engine bay. example:
  17. What's SOC? Where do you work? My son, 3rd year at Berkeley studying Mech engineering, interned at Singer last summer.
  18. John, what are the benefits (and responsibilities) of a Classic Car? I understand Historic Car. Does Classic Car get its own special plate too? I don’t recall ever hearing a distinction between the two. Curious.
  19. Per CA DMV website, smog rules still apply, so even with a Historic car plate a 76+ car needs to do smog checks. 75 and older do not, regardless the plates.
  20. The pop out window handle has 2 phillips screws to the c pillar, and one regular screwdriver screw at the glass. How do you remove the one on the glass? As I turn it the outside cover turns also. I dont want to break anything so wasn't going to try to see if it was just a cap.
  21. As mentioned, they’re cheap, heavy and basic. Even the e30 guys hate them, which is why they’ve traditionally been a good upgrade for 2002’s. And they’re going up in price. Year and a half ago we upgraded my sons e30 from bottlecaps to basketweaves (which I think look better on 2002’s too-but costly). We had trouble giving them away. Fast forward to couple months ago when o got my 2002 and cheapest I could find was $200/set for a beat set lol. eventually I’ll repaint the copper to dark bronze.
  22. So Silicone caliper grease would work then? That's readily available. Sil-Glyde mentioned above isnt available locally but I others are.
  23. Chipping away at my projects. Tonight, in addition to reassembling, then fighting my left caliper I also took out and replaced my transmission mount. Cleaned a bunch while under there too. I noticed a few things while there: -shifter has no bushings. Explains sloppy shifter. -exhaust bracket bolts (to trans) were barely hand tight. I think the grease was holding them on. The green rubber bushings also look long past their ‘best by’ date. -reverse switch was caked in muck and wires not connected. In face only one wire present. The other that should be connected was cut, along with two others (brown and black wires). I think the other two cut wires were to the Fasten Seat Belt light, and the belts were disconnected when I replaced them so that explains that. 72 2002tii
  24. That’s great but won’t arrive for a few weeks. Can’t wait that long. What can I Sue that’s readily available, either a few days or actually locally. What other options are there?
