  1. Got my pedal box back together, fun little project. After making sure I had all of the new bushes, bolts, and parts, I took it all home and got started with assembling. Still need to torque everything down and bolt the master cylinder against the box as I forgot to take those bolts with me. Close up of the pedal box
  2. Got my front calipers back together yesterday night. I first sandblasted the inside of the old pistons and spray painted them with heat resistant paint. Afterwards I let the paint cure in the oven. Same thing with the calipers halves since I clear coated these after the cad plating. New parts laid out, rebuild kit is from Walloth Nesch And back together! Very happy with the outcome, definitely a good choose to get these cad plated as well
  3. I'm pretty sure you can see/feel the sharp edge when they stamped/cut the plate. I would put that side against the B post. Again, probably won't matter. I do have a spare set of these plates/strickers but I'm from Belgium so probably not the cheapest way..
  4. Delivered the new pistons to my local machinist. He'll probably bore the engine this week as the already has a few others lines up to bore also. He also pressure tested the cylinder head told me the head is crack free! Finally some good news about the engine
  5. Mine are number 2, Looks like there isn't really a reference for which horn they used when/on what cars..
  6. Oh oke, I get it. Does you horns looks like.. uhm.. horns? Or are they also round a round shape. I'll try to make some pictures of them later today if I don't forget.
  7. Hmm, I don't seem to have those marked brackets. Are your horns also Bosch? Or Hella? Both my horns had 3 rectangular sheet metal plates (painted in black) bolted to them. I don't have a picture of them, they are currently sitting in primer awaiting to get painted with some black 2k epoxy
  8. If I'm not mistaken the bolts that hold the caliper halves together are of the 'RIBE' type.
  9. Got the new pistons for my engine. The lower compression 2nd oversize pistons aren't available anymore from BMW/Mahle. I stubbled by coincidence on a still sealed set of Mahle pistons partno 0820402. By searching the number on google it confirmed these were the lower compression pistons + it crossed referenced with the BMW part no. The box also had a little paper inside with a number/code of who packaged the pistons
  10. My friend has a rotten E3 and as far as I can tell very few parts are the same. You're better off finding another (complete) 02.
  11. Hey guys, I started assembling my steering box again and when I install the worm gear and the original (cleaned up) shims (2x 0,2 and one 0,1 as far as my caliper is correct) and I torque down the 4 bolts and turn the worm gear it feels gritty. I took it all apart again and used another 0,2 shim instead of the 0,1mm shim and now the worm gear spins freely but has some radial play. As far as I can tell, there aren't any 0,05mm shims available which might help..? Anyone that has some suggestions on what I could try? Would I be able to feel the notchyness when the car is all back together? Thanks, Martijn
  12. Anyone that could help me with finding a new rubber grommet for my heater box? I'm looking for part 6 on the following diagram, partno 64111351472 NLA from BMW, had a look at W&N but they don't have these for sale.
  13. Blasted my heater core and painted it black. I also attached new foam to the heater core and flaps inside of the heater box. "Before" and after shot with an other heater box I had laying around. Turned out great!
  14. Got started on assembling the heater box again. Still need to get some new foam for the little flaps. All the new parts pictured together Controls Also painted the big flap in black I didn't revit the plated parts as it'll be easier to attach the foam Also got the windscreen washerpump back together, gotta love these little details
  15. Haven't done much since last time since I'm currently welding on my E30. The heater core valve started to leak so I had to remove my carpet which meant removing the whole interior. I then discovered some rust which I'm now repairing. Got my second batch of plated parts for the Touring. Mostly interior parts and some stuff we forgot the first time. Brake caliper
  16. You could also use round needle nose pliers and pry the linkage off of the little joint.
  17. I would use a 2k paint as it'll be far more durable than a rattle can.
  18. I've measured the lenghts on both axles like the BMW workshop manual states. And by doing so you make sure ylu got the correct thickness of washer and it was good on mine. Before installing the bearings I also measured the big tube and shims and both measured the same. So it should be good.
  19. Quick question, my rear seal housing was fairly pitted so I decided to replace it. This would mean I don't need the shim for the seal as the housing is brand new right? Or should I use the shim anyway?
  20. Cleaned up the transmission After I took this picture I noticed oil seeping out of the vent plug, decided to drain the transmission until I replace the seals. The oil that was coming out was still very good! Looked almost new Removed the center bearing from the drive shaft. Since I do not have a big enough tube to slide over my wrench, I welded 2 short plates on a long piece of square tubing and drilled a hole through it so I could attach the wrench to the tube. Worked out great! To make sure the drive shaft wouldn't spin, I use a steel L-profile and bolted the drive shaft to it, I then backed the car up on the L-profile using some wooden blocks. The wrench Both pieces removed, I'll first paint the driveshaft black before putting a new center bearing on.
  21. AAAGH! I got the same brochure, forgot to check it. Thank you!
