  1. Have any of you considered or installed a Bracketeer fire extinguisher bracket? See photos. It appears to a great product and to be just the ticket. However, the two seat rails in my '74 tii are offset -- inner rail sets back 3" or so from the outer rail, so the Bracketeer will be at an inconvenient angle if it is installed. Appears to be made to be installed at the forward end of each rail and at 90 degrees to each rail, not at an angle. I can think of a few ways to adapt it to be installed at 90 degrees but you folks might have better ideas. Larry
  2. Will not go into details; however, will give anti-Oh-Shit advice: Do not store empty beer kegs in the garage rafters above the hood of your 2002. I can still hear the sound...
  3. Hmmm... I understand. Your comment sounds logical and probably is just the ticket. I might have screwed the pooch when I rebuilt the box, i.e., incapacitated this cold air flap thingy. Sounds like the HEAT/OFF lever moves an inner flap(s) to mix/direct outside cold air and inside hot air proportionally. I cannot wait to perform yet another ever-so-much-fun-and-easy heater box removal and installation. Thank you so very much. Larry
  4. The HCV arrow is pointing inward, toward the heater box. Moving the HEAT/OFF lever opens and closes, respectively, the footwell flaps in the box and controls air directly out of the box and into the footwell (the source of the hot air to which I referred). Am I missing a "cold air flap" that you mentioned? I cannot seem to find a cold air flap or visualize where cold air should be entering, other than directly thru the fan. Thanks for your advice and patience... Larry
  5. 1974 tii... I did a total rebuild of the heater box and installed a new heater control valve (HCV). The dash levers work well and, believe me, the box can produce copious amounts of hot air. However, only hot air comes from the box, even when the HCV is closed (lever at COLD). I checked the HCV: by visual examination through the HCV openings the HCV seems to open completely at HEAT and close completely on COLD. Still only hot air is produced out. Of course, I can stop the hot air by closing the flat. Could the hot air be coming from the engine bay around the cowl and into the fan? I assumed my replacing the cowl-to-hood weather strip would prevent that; no change. I will appreciate your sage advice and wise counsel. Larry
  6. Thank you, John. The previously used adhesive appears to be yellowish, so I will go with your suggestion. Larry
  7. '02 Friends, Can you recommend an appropriate adhesive to attach the grey rubber strip/seals (see attached photo) to the stainless steel rocker trim which runs along the lower edge of the body? Yes, I know they are dirty. Thanks. Larry
  8. Jason, I might need a couple of doors for my '74.  Know a source?  Larry Gray

Rust status?  Along the bottom?  Any mechanics inside?  Thanks, mucho, Jason.

  9. Many times. Just this week, in fact. Good service all around.
  10. Hello from Cincinnati.

I need a set of '74 doors.  Still available?  Will you be so kind as to send fotos of doors...bottom edges, along the bottom, etc.

    Thank you so very much.

  11. Anyone leaving from Cincinnati our thereabouts on Wednesday, May 18th? Larry Gray
  12. Steve, Thanks for the excellent discussion and excellent link. Again we see parts of our '02 history can be complicated, detailed, and mysterious. Larry
  13. The aforementioned comment "There were both Recaro and Scheel-Mann factory options (and dealer accessories) for the '02." might answer a question I have had for some time: Did Recaro and/or Scheel-Mann make the optional 2002 "Recaro" type seats which are sometimes referred to on this site? If so, should they be called "Recaros", "BMW Recaros", or something else. Just wondering.
  14. Why do we continue to see nice for sale '02s (outside and, usually, interior) with engines, bays, and trunks that look as if (at a minimum) 409 and a rag have never touched them. These sites need love, too. Such love can easily be provided in less than a day. It is like seeing a beautiful house, and the inside being a scene from Hoarders. Go figure...
  15. See measurement in attached foto. ~15 inches from front edge of dash to surface of carpeting against the firewall. We all are still wondering why you need the measurement. We are just curious. Glad to help.
  16. I will accommodate your desire tomorrow (Sunday, March 6, 2016) and send fotos. Promise.
  17. Alaattin ("Al") Erkanli has refurbished the original seat belts in my '74 tii. Some parts were refurbished and some (particularly, the retractors) were replace by better retractors. All components of the entire package look brand new, seem to function swimmingly (as they say in England), and were easy to reinstall. His being recommended and touted as our site's seatbelt expert seems to have been spot-on (as they say in Wheeler Dealers). Thanks, Al. Nice work.
  18. Thanks, LJ, for the photo. Your dark color likely looks fine and quite acceptable behind your grille when in place. I likely will stay with the Inka behind my all-black grille b/c it just feels right and original. I suppose a little color peeking through will not change the world in any significant way. What's the sweet ride beside your '02? Larry
  19. Same thing here for at least a couple of years many years ago with my '73 2002. Stalling with a sharp turn. Only way to restart was to bounce the car at each front fender, sorta like bouncing the car and checking the shocks. Started right up. One day I noticed the battery was shifting a few mm and shorting out (my term; probably incorrect); positive post (again, maybe wrong; was in late '70's or so) was touching the end of a body sheet metal screw that was projecting in toward the battery. Bouncing moved the battery away from the screw. Does any of that explanation sound reasonable? That was >40 years ago, and I have cloudy memories of that decade.
  20. Friends, Many thanks for all of you comments, experiences, and suggestions. Just the info I needed. AceAndrew, your three links to previous posts/threads were replete with just the info I needed. Larry
  21. Sweet. All black. Nice statement. Cool location for your driving lights.
