  1. Recaro SRDs in my '73 tii M2 Evo. I upholstered the centers in real suede which smells amazing! COOP
  2. markmac, you nailed it. To those who deride the "fools," who pay "stupid money" for a tii, consider that the European gentleman who just bought my '72 Baikal/Saddle tii with 55K miles (every one documented since new) spent a million dollars on the RESTORATION of a Pebble Beach, Best-in-Class winner. He lay awake at night during graduate school, fantasizing about owning a brand new tii, but it was way out of his league back then. Now, he's a massive success. A hundred grand here or there to these folks is meaningless. It's not about what a car is "worth" (whatever that means). It's about having what you want and having it NOW...and It's about finally attaining those elusive dreams of youth. COOP
  3. I pointed that out as well in a BaT comment : No listed mileage (not even TMU), no detailed history or provenance to speak of, a totally new interior (vs original vinyl, etc) and no sunroof...But a DAMN nice car nonetheless and an eye-opening result. Perhaps vintage BMW buyers at this echelon are less obsessive about the above items relative to Porsche and Alfa buyers...but that did surprise me. COOP PS: My Baikal tii is going to Europe. It won Best in Class last Tuesday at Concours on the Avenue and someone made me an offer that I could not refuse. I had no plans on selling and I'm definitely sad...but it's done.
  4. I guess we can't go with the tried-and-trued, "two gorillas with big egos" theory here, given the numerous bidders who were in on the action, right up to the conclusion. Great result! COOP
  5. Congratulations on your new tii Rene and I am honored if I had any role whatsoever in helping to reinvigorate your quest. I hope to see you again soon. COOP
  6. Rene, it was great to meet you and your family yesterday in Carmel! All the best with your search and stay in touch. Best, Daniel Cooper
  7. I definitely missed the mark by a mile on this one! I figured that if the black 1600 did $30K (or close to it), than this one might do a bit better in the oft-crazed atmosphere that is BaT...but Steve made some good points with regard to the virtues of the Schwarz car over the Manila example that I hadn't fully grasped. COOP
  8. Lol...that WAS one of the dumber statements I've read! COOP
  9. Absolutely gorgeous tii...Congrats!! COOP
  10. That's pretty hard core! How will the wire be taught? Are you thinking home-schooling?
  11. There was one entertaining moment of the race weekend, how could I forget:
  12. Lol, you are so right! I keep getting snookered by the broadcasters ("last race before the Summer break, a single point separating Vettel & Hamilton, blah, blah, etc") into buying that "this will be the one" with outrageous duels and hair-raising passing action, but it never happens...just another snoozer of a Mercedes-Ferrari parade. OK, this time I'm putting the hammer down for good! Watch, the next race that I miss will be one for the ages... COOP
  13. Good God, it is literally the most boring racing on the planet. It makes NASCAR (or synchronized swimming) seem like Gladiators vs. Lions in the Roman Colliseum. Horrible!! The coverage of the last 20-30 laps of the race at the Hungaroring makes me think of an animated Monty Python TV coverage of two old-school boxers dancing, feinting and shadow-boxing around each other without ever actually making contact. What an embarrassment to the term "racing." If you want to see real racing, check out Moto3... COOP
  14. lol, not just for you, I see that one all the time!
  15. Last year, I got to go to lots of great events throughout the week, including Concours (no "e" on the end of this word folks!) on the Avenue, Legends of the Autobahn, The Quail, Tiny Cars (Pacific Grove), Mission and Pebble Beach. All were fantastic...sensory overload. This year, my '72 tii has been invited to be judged at Concours on the Avenue on 8/15 in Carmel which I'm really excited about, as that is my favorite show...but unfortunately, I'll have to cannonball it back to The Bay Area afterwards. I highly recommend The Fishwife in Asilomar and Pavel's Bakery in Pacific Grove. COOP
  16. Philosophical leanings aside (stock vs. modified, etc), that S14/1600 just strikes me as a much nicer, higher quality car. A no-brainer for me... COOP
  17. Square lights, a color that some might feel doesn't "pop" and flaws/shortcomings notwithstanding, somebody committed a major 487 here. COOP
  18. Hi there! Unfortunately, I won't be able to make the full week this year. However, I will be at the Tuesday Concours on the Avenue event! COOP Nice memories of The Quail from last year:
  19. Thanks fastricky! I sent you some stuff offline... COOP
