  1. There is an 02 in Burlingame CA that I will need to have checked out by a mechanic before I consider buying it. Anyone know of a good 02 mechanic in the Burlingame area that would do this? Stuart
  2. I have been looking for a 72 or 73 non tii for about 3 months now and I'm finding that their prices are being dragged up but what we see for the tiis. There are some dealers that have non tiis in the 20s if they can say it has been "restored". Private sellers are wanting between 12 and 15 even though it might need some sorting out. I recently sold a 73.5 911T project car to fund my 02 aquisition. From what I am seeing and hearing the buyer got a steal and I'm now chasing a car that is increasing in price. The search continues.
  3. All - The search continues. Month 3 of trying to get back to my car roots with an 02. I check multiple internet sites multiple times each day and for the most part I see the same cars day in and day out. Frustration is setting in. Looking for a 72 or 73. Going back and forth on whether I want a tii or a non tii that I do a motor for. Tough choice. I see lot's of tiis but most are either "done" and cost a small fortune or they are a complete restoration projects. Looking for something in between. So far most non tiis are close but a little overpriced and perhaps being dragged up by what people see the tiis listed for. Here is what I am looking for: 72 or 73 Considering tii or non tii (for a non tii I will do a motor as I love the look and sound of an 02 with sidedrafts) Driver quality original paint if possible All trim and bumpers in place and not painted Will entertain most exterior colors but if pressed Chamonix is the preference Driver quality interior - Will do new carpet and seats - no color preference if it makes sense with exterior Suspension - Can be lowered, not slammed, but will do tasteful lowering if not yet done Driver motor preferred as I would like to drive it while I do a motor 4 or 5 speed but not a show stopper So yes I am being picky which is making the search more tough. One thing I have found is that there are no limits in terms of the crazy things that have been done to these very nice cars. Looking for one to love and take care of, cash in hand and ready to buy the right car. Please reach out if you know of one or know of a website listing I should be watching. Stuart
  4. All - I reconnected with an old friend tonight that I have not spoken with in 20+ years, Peyton Smith. He is the mechanic that built my 2nd 02. We had a great time talking about life, our families and my desire to get another 02. After catching up we focused on my 02 wish list and what it will take to get there. We had an exchange of ideas on everything from paint to pistons and will now layout a plan to get there. The hardest part will be finding the right car as the starting point and I'm not making that easy as I want a 72 or 73 non tii car. To that end I cover many internet sites every day, I'm ready to move on the right car, and I'm building a network of contacts to help with my search. Peyton has been an 02 guy for years working at A&E here in the Bay Area before having his own shop and he now runs the Morgan Hill shop for Steve Dinan. Peyton suggested that I reach out and connect with Tom Jones through this board as part of my search for the right car. Tom, if you see this post, could we please set up a time for us to talk about what I am looking for. You can reach me at skjerven4198@yahoo.com. Thank you, Stuart

  6. So I emailed you from the board last night with my email address. I am interested in learning more about your car and from what I see there are others. I can be reached at skjerven4198@yahoo.com or 408-355-4119. Thank you Stuart
  7. All - So I've been looking at many online sites as well as following what pops up here. I've looked at several cars online and I am talking with owners of a few. Here is what I am looking for just in case any one knows of a car. 1. 72 or 73 non TII 2. Straight body - no accidents or rust if possible 3. Daily driver quality paint - Resonable nicks and chips ok 3. Good interior but does not need to be perfect 4. All bumpers - Not fonder of the "No Front Bumper" look 5. Stock suspension ok - will look at cars that have been lowered 6. The motor needs to be a driver now and can have modifications Wow now that I read this back it sounds pretty picky. So far the non TIIs in these years have been far and few between. Most non TIIs are 75s or 76s at a dealer and the prices on these dealer cars are crazy. I am in California but not opposed to having a car shipped from out of state. I sold my last 02 back in the early 80s and I want another one. Thank you for any input or direction. Staurt
  8. I've seen this one posted in several places including ebay. It looks like the work that has been done in pretty good quality. Any thoughts from the group on this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MELBOURNE-RED-02-OEM-TURBO-LOOK-WIDEBODY-BLACK-AND-SUEDE-INTERIOR-/140954518593?ViewItem=&item=140954518593&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466&forcev4exp=true
  9. Anyone on the board that knows this car?
  10. Yes I agree that having the car checked out by someone you trust is very important. I am hoping I don't fall in "online like" with a car that's across the country.
  11. Yes I saw the rust on the 02. Its a shame that some one would do this for a quick buck. If I'm not mistaken, the 1600 started life as a Sahara car. The hunt continues.
  12. The first is a 1600: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CLASSIC-BMW-CALIFORNIA-CAR-ROUND-TAIL-LIGHTS-CA-SMOGG-EXEMPT-SERVICE-RECORDS-/321100483625?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4ac3148c29 Looks like a color change. The second is a 68 2002: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1968-BMW-2002-Roundie-Coupe-21k-Original-Miles-Very-Original-Books-Stock-Rare-/300884205119?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item460e189e3f Looks like there was no rust work done when it was painted and isn't the 2002 logo on the back on the wrong side. Any input would be great as I am exploring a number 02 purchase options at the moment. Thank you.
  13. Thank you very much for the break down and OH MY GOODNESS that is one nice engine!
  14. Mine are a little older. 2 in High School and 1 in College. Sounds like your boy will enjoy your car when the time comes. Hang on to it. My boy's and I were were going to restore my 73.5 911T but its going to cost too much as critters got to it while it was being stored at my parents. I had a 76 02 about 25 years ago. Sold it for the 911 and I'm still not sure why. My 76 was a blast to drive with sidedrafts, 304 shrick cam, 9.5 to 1, and it was lowered. These cars look great when you sit them down a little. My boys are ready to wrench on the car, I just need to find the right candidate. We'll see and I will post pics when we locate the right one. Drive safe!
  15. Very nice. My boys and I have decided to get an 02 that we can build up. I hope it will end up half as nice as yours!
  16. Getting back in to BMWs after 20 years and I'm finding that the terminology regarding engine options has changed. When I had my car it was either a 4 or a 6. Now I hear M10, M20, E something, M3, M30 etc. Could someone please help me understand all the motor options and their names? Sorry for the rookie question but I want to understand all my options as I get into this project.
  17. So I have been out of the 02 world for 20 years and I've just now decided that I want another one. The looking is easy, the finding part is hard. What I want is a Roundie. A 72 would be perfect. One big decision I need to make is on the engine I want. On my last 02 I had 45 DCOE Weber sidedrafts, a Shrick 304 and 9.5 to 1 pistons. It was a blast to drive but needed fairly constant attention like any motor with a little extra. I am not opposed to having some engine work done on the car I select, and as a matter of fact I would rather have a fresh motor. So the bottom end would be 9.5 to 1 pistons and the top end would be a Shrick cam. As a car that would be driven more than it sits, should I go sidedrafts or injection? I'm thinking that injection would be easier to maintain in the long run, but that means I need to start looking for a tii which run a few more bucks. Any idea which option would produce the most hp? I know I need to set this aside in making my decision but I just love the sound of a motor with sidedrafts and I love the look of a 4 banger with sidedrafts.

  19. I am in the South Bay and would like to see your car this Sunday. Would that be possible? Stuart
  20. Cancer is just another one of life's little challenges and every day is a goood day. My email is skjerven4198@yahoo.com. Thank you, Stuart
  21. Sorry since you said 73, I thought you were interested in the 73 02 after I was done with it. Wishful thinking. I will email you more info on the 911T. Stuart
