  1. You should check and see if your replies are being filtered by a spam program on your email program. Could be in the trash.
  2. Here's one of my fav vids that's kind fascinating from 1970 as well. Definitely NOT race car drivers, just people that imagine themselves as such and have a cruel awakening to the reality that they are not.
  3. I find the lines kinda cool, but yeah, I actually had a loaner for awhile as a colleague let me drive one for a summer, and it's definitely a tub. My old '74 Plymouth Valiant was more nimble. Still, as a media producer, one of the simplest and most impressive videos I've seen about a car and it's owner was about a p1800:
  4. I think the car would look "correct" during the afternoon. The Kelvin thermodynamic temperature scale during the morning is typically a bit blue-ish. Regardless, it's a nice finish. Very clean and purty.
  5. Dang. I should hire you as a consultant. You're basically doing everything I'm interesting in attempting, but have no wisdom, yet, on how to accomplish! Good stuff.
  6. When China's time at bat is over, there's plenty of other locations in the world waiting on deck willing and able to exploit their population for profit. It's not the nation(s) at fault, really, it's bizness. Keep in mind that the U.S. was the global industrial boom-town a hundred years ago. Granted, we were huge innovators of industry tech, not just thieves of ideas with no respect for copyright, but we certainly weren't above exploitation when required. I see a wild card in the future though. The whole 3D printer/stereolithography thing, depending how robust that tech becomes, could really shift the markets of specialty manufacturing. Could I design a special intake manifold or customized throttle linkage for my 2002 on my home PC, email the digital model to a neighborhood printer, and then pick it up later in the day? We'll see. I do believe we'll see some of the more modest bits and ends of old cars start to become more readily available this decade via regular-joe enthusiasts that have access to 3d printers. Need a latch hinge for your broken sun visor? No problem, I have that CAD on my hard drive. I can print that out tonight and mail it to you by the end of the day!
  7. That's what I paid for my 2002 in similar condition.
  8. Yup. I got mine too, haven't opened it yet. I don't expect to be doing a real restoration; more of a "repair" and "maintenance" kind of guy here, but I suspect it'll still have lots of good info in it.
  9. Yeah, that's the one. Now I just gotta to learn how to rebuild the thing!
  10. I read a suggestion recently that advised to register the car via a friend's or relative's address in a less strict smog-zone. Basically, someplace in rural CA. Not sure if you know anyone that can do that, but on a '76 that would be a good option if available.
  11. Thanks, I'll make sure to peek in there often.
  12. Hi Everyone, I've been around the forum for a bit, but haven't posted much. (These new-fangled computers and the information super-highways sure are spiffy though) Basically, my mechanical skills qualify as "knows-enough-to-be-dangerous," but that's about it. There's a '75 2002 daily driver in the garage, and an old '76 motor will be joining it tomorrow. My intent is to tinker on the beat-up motor while driving the car, eventually getting to the point where the '76 motor is rebuilt and strong and I can swap it with the tired engine in the '75. This serious wrenching is all a new process/ambition for an old dude like me, (always wanted to try it, never made the time 'til now) so a local vocational college automotive engine-rebuild class is on the schedule for later this year. In the meantime, can anyone point me in the right direction for a 2002 SoCal community? The forum here covers Bay Area, but nothing down my way. Anywho, glad to be here, hope to meet other owners before too long! Sincerely, Matt
  13. Didn't really think it was a scam, just a person that wasn't too interested in the selling process. Curious, was anyone else there wanting to purchase the car or was it just you and a '9am-cash-in-hand-off-you-go' kind of thing?
  14. Sounds like a flaky guy. Who knows what shape he's in. At least he laid down the "rules" of his sale. Sort of. Anyone that's used craigslist would know that doing so is better than most. Seems like someone local willing to get there in person is going to have a shot at it. Not ideal for buyers, but for a seller seems reasonable.
  15. That looks like the same garage from the "Valhalla is Real" thread.
