  1. You can easily remove and cut the bracket and redrill them to fit closer. The big problem is where the bumper mounts at the ends, just ahead of the front wheel wells. It would also require you removing the bolts, and redrilling the body, leaving nasty holes.
  2. "Trap" mirrors were standard (drivers side, right side dealer installed option) through 1973. Officially the "Flag" style mirror was to be used for 1974 on, along with the federal bumpers, turn signal lever moving to the left, etc. However like all automotive assembly lines, some trap mirror found their way onto some later cars to use up the inventory. Mounting was a pot metal bracket screwed onto the door sheet metal with a type of blind nut. Then the black gasket was fitted to the mirror and the mirror was attached to the bracket with a single set screw from the rear, being covered by a flap on the gasket. I have left and right on my 1973 ever since delivered to me in July, 1973. Those are a nice find. If you don't want to use them, Im sure they will bring big buckes on auction.
  3. I use Hagerty as well for declared value insurance. Very reasonable in price but Hagerty has a 2500 mile per year mileage limit. I'm not sure if this can be overcome but I know Grundy Worldwide Insurance also has declared value insurance for older cars and hot rod and does not have a mileage restriction.
  4. Holes in floorpan...Flintstones Big Brake upgrade?? Yabba dabba doo!!
  5. Wow, after reading the description, now I know what "tastefully" means! Beautiful wheel right off a Conistoga wagon am the steering wheel looks like a Chernoble survivor. Pimp that ride!! I once knew a designer whos favotite saying was, "There no explaining bad taste."
  6. Spanish Landing right on the harbor is where San Diego BMWCCA has their yearly Clean Car Conrtest. It's a wonderful site across from the entrance to the airpost. Mostly grass, bike path entry and several shade trees. Check it out, it would be a great spot. http://maps.msn.com/(43pzwz55yf5sghfjzi22gq45)/map.aspx?L=USA&C=32.72864%2c-117.20562&A=7.16667&P=|8255BAFD|&TI=Spanish+Landing+Park+(park)%2c+San+Diego%2c+California%2c+United+States
  7. I would like to replace the verticle felt at the forward edge of the roll down window glass. It is the piece attached to the rear chrome track behind the wind wings, and going down into the doors. Anyone done this? The part is available from Bimmer Parts for about $60, but I don't know if it is for both sides or just one. Do I need to pull the door panel? Pull the window too? How does it affix into the track? Thanks for any guidance in advance.
  8. Jack took 3 days for my tii. I dropped it off Monday, picked it up Thursday morning. I'm sure you will have to leave the car at least overnight to let the valves totally cool. Jack doens't have alot of storage space, so he likes to get them in and out, not just let them sit. I HIGHLY reccomend Jack Fahuna, made my car run like it was new again and reasonable prices.
  9. I'm gathering info to do a conversion to my tii. I have the Getrag 245 and some of the necessary seals. Here's where I need some responces. I'm considering either the conversion kit from 02Haus in SLO, or the one made by Metric Mechanic. I've seen the one from 02Haus but not the Metric Mechanic one. Tell me about your expieriences with either. I want to be minimumly evasive to the car, no welding or heavy mods. I'll do the labor myself. Thanks in advance.
  10. I find the best wheel cleaner is to not let them get all that dirty to start with. I've run PBR (formallu Repco) brake pads on my tii for over 30 years. I've always used the "Deluxe", not the metal-master. The Deluxe is easier on your rotors, but the metalmaster is a more aggresive pad for A-X and hard driving. My wheels stay very clean on all my cars that have these pads including my Tundra. Then when cleaning is necessary when I wash the cars, I use any of the spray on, rinse off wheel safe cleaners. Right now I'm trying the Turtle wax brand and it works great and is cheap. I know P21 brand is also excellent. The stuff made by Eagle One is the only product they make which I didn't like. It is a combination wheel/tire cleaner that does a great job cleaning wheels, but always leaves the tires streaked.
  11. Beautifl car and very correct (except the rocker covers). First car I've seen besides mine with the correct right and left "trapazoid" mirrors. I'd love to see the entire car. Where did you get the new blue vinyl? Mine is tan inside which is NLA.
  12. I've been gathering front suspension parts and Meyle are known to be OEM, like several other brands. The factory uses several brands so if one supplier runs short or has a labor problem, they switch to another as to not hold up the production line. I jst bought ball joints from a 2002 vendor on Ebay. $62.00 at the dealer each, $49.95 for the pair and I had them in 3 days with regular shipping. http://stores.ebay.com/002BMWPARTS Hope this helps.
  13. My '73 has covers. I recently found new ones readily available. They are about $5 each. Check Ebay or Bimmer Parts. The link takes you to the page where they are located. Look for quarter window latch covers. http://www.partsbmw.com/showproducts.asp?MainCat=1968%20~%201976%20BMW%202002%20Restoration%20Parts&SubCat1=Interior&CookieID=6D75GB07U
  14. I don't know much about carbs, but A/C I can help. The Frigiking is a unit that was dealer installed (as were all a/c's). It's a good unit with a fairly nice console. As for making it useable, that will cost you. Trying to get it up and running on the old R-12 is not practicle. The freon costs way too much and because the wat a/c's wer built using barbed hose connections, they end up leaking. The right way is to retro fit the car with a rotary style unit. Sanden makes a compressor that with an adapter plate, with bolt up nicely. Thenyou have to have new "o-ring" style hoses fabricated at an A/C shop. You will also need a new dryer and probibly a larger condensor in front of the radiator. Plan on spending around $1500 by the time you're done. Sure is nice on sunny days in dark colored cars!
  15. World upholstery has really nice kits. They supply german loop as well as seat pads in the original horsehair. http://www.worlduph.com/bmw1.htm
  16. Come on guys, I need a source for the urethane.
  17. I'm gathering the rubber bushings and ball joints to rebuild my front suspension. I'm replacing control arms as well, which have new bushings already installed. I want to stay with rubber (OEM) to renew the factory comfort. Is there a better way to do the front sway bar? I know there are 8 rubber bushings at the ends of the bar, but what about the 2 that attached to the subframe? Rubber there too or are there urethane available? If so, where?
  18. I believe that is the flippenhausenschlockenhauser, or ballast resistor. Black and red coils use them, blue has them built in...I think!
  19. I wish! There hasn't been and weave letherette available in ages. World Upholstery has some seat covers in black, but the tan and blue are long gone. If you could find someone to manufacture it, I'm sure there would be plenty of buyers. BTW...the color is actually called "Skai". Shows on my window sticker from my car.
  20. I've tried several brands of waxes and polishes through the yeras and come to "my" conclusion. For the best show quality shine, in sunlight or under the lights, 3M hand glaze does a fantastic job. Fill minute scratchesd and give a deep shine. However, does not last very long if the car is a daily driver and left out in the weather. For the best overall shine and protection I use the products by the Zaino Brothers. They have 2 formulas, one for single stage paint, one for clear coated. In a publication called The Guru Report, Zaino was ranked No. 1! It is available from them direct online at Zainostore.com. IMHO, miles above Zymol. http://www.zainostore.com/
  21. I recently bought a 2003 E46 325i with factory stereo without CD changer. I also bought the Ipod interface electronics from the dealer but it has limited instructions for installation. I have the installation wiring diagrams but don't know how to: 1. Remove Radio 2. Remove Climate control panel 3. Remove radio bracket If anyone has these instructions or the info from BMW's TIP, I could really use some help. Better yet, come over and help me and I'll buy the pizza.
  22. Call Jack Fahuna at Pro BMW. He is the guru of tii's and may be able to help you diagnose your problem http://www.probimmer.com/
