    What I did to my O2 today (actually it was Friday), I found the electrical fault that was preventing the car from starting. With full power on gauges, lights, fan, everything, the starter would not turn, no nothing. Ultimately after some prompting from local 'O2 heads here in H-town, I inspected all wires and discovered that the ground strap coming from the neg battery terminal to the fender was frayed. Put a jumper on there and Vroom! she started right up. Lesson-learned - check the ground strap

    I just spoke with Caroline from BMS and she told me that they were getting out of the support business for 1970's and older BMW's because of a lack of available parts, etc. That means no more support for 2002's in their shop. What this means is one of the most well-known BMW vintage support shops in Houston is going away.

    Glad to hear the good review of BMS. I wasn't sure how the shop was doing since Mike passed away. I do wish there was a good vintage mechanic out in west Houston somewhere.

    I'm glad I read this thread and thanks to the original poster. I'd forgotten that I wanted to get a fire extinguisher. As a result of this post I ordered the chrome HalGuard extinguisher from 4wheelparts. I hope I never use it. I couldn't imagine the regret I would feel if I ever needed it and didn't have it.

    What does it take to prep a car (and driver/team) for the Targa Newfoundland? Jack Healy of Langley, Washington runs a '69 2002 that looks like a vintage racer. The event really looks like a full-fledged European Rally now. When it started 10 years ago it seemed like more of a casual touring event.     Question: There are a number of different options on battery disconnect switches. I know nothing about these but a little research shows that they are used for SCCA and similar racing, etc. For my '72 O2 in stock mode, I just want a way to easily turn switch or handle when the car sits for more than a few weeks. My battery sits in the stock 'front' position. I see that there are 4-terminal, 2-terminal, alternator protect types, etc..... thanks dave

    Austin has the largest concentration of old hippies this side of the Mason Dixon line, there are bound to be some sporting 'O2's. I was just in Austin this week and saw a nice '72 Malaga driving on H.71 heading east out of town. And as someone mentioned, Terry Sayther is in Austin. He's got to have at least a dozen O2's in his parking lot.

    the first 500 miles were a combination of city (LA), then extended highway driving. (CA IH-10). The car was then driven to Texas over a three-day period.

    thanks for the feedback. I pulled the new NGK plugs out and regapped them to 0.040. there is oil though on the new plugs. this is a new (rebuilt) carbed (32/36) tii motor, also did a compression test on the motor tonight first was on a cold engine with the following: 1: 142 2: 142 3 - not tested 4: 142 Then reinstalled the plugs and ran the motor (and retimed it) with a 'hot' motor and throttle fully engaged I got the following: 1: 152 2: 157 3: 154 4: 157 all numbers are close and consistent, but I expected higher numbers, especially since the motor has 9.5 CR pistons (E12 head).
